Wish I could get an allotment 4 to 6 year wait here ! Dropped waterlily now just a single of tarahati ruby to try. Only 2 collerettes one of abacus sol for colour and one pooh and hopefully a couple of garden friends if Tel has any spare.

Great for the garden not a show variety remember in America they are interested in colour more than anything else. Don't waste the space in your garden if you intend showing put half a dozen Zoe in. Steve it is Jersie (girls name )not Jersey Les won't be happy Ha ha hope Les does not give me a ear bashing .

Lots of similar looking one's ste b i found that with the decs . Easy for you experts but a nightmare for novices. I forgot I have a tuber of an American small cactus winner called parkland rave what you think scrumpy. Does very well in USA . Bright pink . I wonder if doing a plant or six is worth it ? Was going to do 2 in my display anyway. Decisions decisions. Let's see how the propagation goes. This is parkland rave Nice colour Ray but looks abit course, I've never grown Zoe so can't comment on its habit it looks good on the show bench, grow as meny as you can, kiwis are good but they can badly damp off,

Fred white from my society won a class in the novices in wisley last year. So now he takes on the Mr sutherlands spencers aspitals etc.... It is quite daunting to think I hope to show in the same room as many fantastic growers. Fred White won the J W Montaque cup at Wisley so he's out of the Novices now.

Don't worry Moonlight, least you won't have about your electricity bill. My little smart meter is doing a quick step around the dial, as we speak . And as Lou says, you'll will soon get going .
Signed up for my first allotment this morning, after getting the once over from the Association chairman. 125 sqm, with shed, and they even rotovate it for you!! Not bad for £23 per year, and £5 association membership. I feel like I've won the pools .
Happy days indeed
Well done and best of luck with the allotment Mark you will love it, going to have to watch out for you on the bench hehe. Thanks Steve, feel like a kid in a sweet shop, can't wait to get digging. Bring on Harrogate

I'm normally a confident person, but I must be honest, since stewarding at Harrogate, and seeing and hearing the judges, well, judge, I keep having self doubts, DC. Bl***y stupid really, as it's not as if this is my first year growing Dahlias, this will be my sixth . Getting an allotment this week though has really spurred me on, and with the tubers on heat and popping out all over the place, the self doubts are taking a back seat for a while. I'm also getting great support, and although it's a long way away, I've joined the Midlands Society, to increase my chances of putting something decent on the bench, with a good dollop of beginners luck as well .
So, whether it cards and medals, or NAS and failure, I'm really going to enjoy the ride.

Welcome to my new Dahlia HQ. This is where I'm going to be planning my takeover of the planet Dahlia .
With the help of the town council, who very kindly, are going to rotovate it for me. Well even a despot ruler needs a bit of help!!!
The HQ building is on the left, as the one on the right, needs a tiny bit of work..... me thinks
Be afraid, be very afraid. The dreamer from the allotment, is coming to a flower show near you soon.... Well hopefully, anyway
Pssss... That's not my finger in the pictures, it's one of the moons of allotment planet...

Mark, good luck with the plot you will get loads of advice about getting it into the right condition all I will say is the best way is to dig all the weed out by hand. it will be far better then just using weed killer and rotating. I am sure after meeting you you will do the right thing I am sure. Do you plan on putting up covers or a tunnel or not? Good luck whatever you choose. Your plants will grow very well on that plot looks like it hasn't been grown on for a while. PS don't just rotivate the plot as you will create big problems, hand digging is best.

I agree with ian. Hand dig and weed...it won't take a strong young lad like to get it started. Mine was in a worse mess than that and I hand dug it myself ....and coped with the weeds

I agree as well. I would hand Dig as well if you rotovate it you don't know what perennial weed roots are underneath and you will make it 10 times worse. My main dahlia bed was full of hardy geranium roots over a foot thick knotted tight the only way to get rid was to hand Dig and get all the roots out.
Good luck with your take over of the dahlia world Mark. You will do great ! I am a little jealous ! Would love an allotment .

Have you a lot of dandelions and docks on there. if so do not chop those roots up with a rotovater, unless you are going to kill the resultant new weeds come April/May with weedkiller.
