Question
Hillcrest candy is my main show medium semi cactus
I am going to grow the following but wondering if I should change as I need a good second as backup
I have or will have
Staleen condessa peach delight kenora sunset a single of raisers pride to try which could be increased
Plus the unknowns
Ac Abby Dame deirdrie strike a light
I was thinking that Ruskin Michelle may be a good option to do numbers in.
Will have to be uncovered as in front garden. Any suggestions would be great.

Hi Raymond, my opinion is for what it is worth for me Val's Candy Is a better Dahlia on my land than Candy as a back up as is De la Haye my first choice will always be either Cream or Eastwood Moonlight. Pastelle is very good indeed it has a tendency to fim a little even more so in hot weather (does not grow well for me) Staleen Condessa is a cracking Dahlia tends not to damp off the same as the Moonlights it has a great growth habit with neat blooms of great depth. The centres can become isolated ( or cup and saucer) great colour not a very good tuber maker (pot tuber some plants)

Cheers ian I would do the moonlight but next year for that. I have a credit for halls so will order one Eastwood to try. Will stick with hillcrest this time as uncovered. Will stay with staleen as the second and just grow a couple of the others in the display. You don't seem to see much of staleen any more. Did not see one in Kent. Mostly candys and pastelles. Not a moonlight in site. for smalls dominated by the goldcrests here and some of the Ruskin. One guy grows kiwis well. let's see what happens. Won't know until I try.

Clearview Louise looks a cracker ! MarkE. I am Trying Sundance only 2 one a as medium 9 up and the other a large 6 up. It is so robust from all accounts it still makes size this many up. I think Moonlight scrumpy both have grow Louise. Another choice is narrows Tricia . There is a new one called narrows Sonia that I would like to try next year also jubilee boy 2 . The other if I can get hold of it is Ruskin sensation. Heard not easy to propogate and poor Tuber maker.

No Mark it wasn't me I did not go any were near her!! ......................... ? Oh the Dahlia not it Is one I liked the look of but did not get any but looks good. Raymond one of the reason you don't see some of these dahlias are because they are bad keepers. Varieties like Challenger, Kiwis, Diane's, Moonlights and many more top varieties all very easy to propagate and relatively easy to grow.

That makes sense ian especially if doing large numbers.I suppose being a small grower it might be Easier In some respects. Will stick with what I have picked and try new next year. Onwards and upwards. Will add the moonlight in. Ian have you seen ryecroft Helen ? Looks a nice one. I know some down here growing it. Not officially released yet.
