i have tried a few places for plants this year and i have to say that halls were the best plants ive recieved I wish I could say the same robh. The tubers I received from Halls this year have been very disappointing. Most tubers did not produce one single cutting. Those that did produced very weak cuttings. May not use Halls again.

Diggie pm Dahliadave he will want to know and I am sure will sort something out for you. Hi Ian,I have contacted Halls and they tell me that a number of customers have had the same problem this year, so I am sure dahliadave is aware. However all they are prepared to do is supply me with 3 cuttings for each failed tuber. The cuttings are grown to order and I am waiting for them to arrive. Thank you for your concern.

I have got to say I had a tuber of Millennium and a tuber of Andrea Clarke off of David they were quite small tubers but produced approx. 16 cuttings each so sometimes you can be unlucky. If they are going to give you three cuttings per tuber then at least that is a result and you have something if you are short of a few plants I can send you a few if you like.

Just finished taking cuttings , 870 not all will root for me, not bad out of a shed with home made propagator 4ft x 2ft approx and heated bench 7ft x 2ft a lot of messing about but well worth it.

Well done ste b . I am still taking them . Another week or so and that is me done. I have taken in excess of 270 lost around 100 through my moisture errors, sand fiasco and general damping off. Overall I am not to disappointed. I overwintered the tubers well they threw well for me and gave lots of cuttings. Will take enough for pot tubers of certain varieties and some more bedding one's I need then finished. Always next year and hopefully a proper greenhouse.

You've done well Raymond on your first year taking dahlia cuttings , some are not as easy as you think, but your getting to know what suits your set up , so you will be more confident next year.

I definitely feel more confident now Steve. The failures really make you learn. I have tried 6 different mediums now and I think my preferred are the coir so long as not to wet and sieved good multipurpose and sharp sand. It's also the size of cutting I have learned and also how much leaf etc... To leave on. To much and they flag And hard to get perky again also the amount of light etc... pleased with how the tubers did and performed. A bit crowded though as I added more in. Will allow more space next year as I will have more field tubers And also the depth you plant them. I do like the garland titan trays.

Raymond yes take plenty of cuttings for pot tubers always an excellent back up. But if you have tubers that have thrown lot of cuttings stronger than others of the same variety then pot it up this can then be used again if needed. What you will have next year is a tuber with many crowns on it and will produce far far more cuttings than this year.

Two Mary's jomanda have been great and also three of the winholm Diane and three of the Weston pirate. The candy pot tuber has out performed the field tuber. Both of the clearviews, Ac Abby, Hapet pearl and Hapet daydream excellent cuttings providers. Parkland rave also good growing this as early flowering I can use this one for staging practise. I will pot them up as you say. if the new ones I like and worth trying again I will have these tubers as well As pot tubers. Should I pot up in big pot and use the plant as extra numbers Ian ? Or just keep it ticking over and healthy Let it flower naturally ?

No just keep it ticking over as you say not necessarily letting it flower just to build the tuber up

Thank you very much Ian, that is a most generous offer to send me a few plants. I will of course cover all costs involved. Once again thank you. I will contact you soon.

well have taken a good few cuttings lost some lost a lot of tubers that just turned to mush but have getting in replacements however i have gettin better cuttings from the tubers in a cold greenhouse at the allotment than from the ones i had on heat at homethe cuttings seem to have been stronger as well im goin to divide the tubers down the allotment and put in 5 inch pots and plant them into the ground ,not sure if they will produce a de cent size tuber though am also goin to try and put a decent weed suppressor down and am planning to build some sort of cover not shure if it will be another greenhouse or just build a frame and cover with a good polythene, i might even get round to haveing a go at the shows one day lol
