I know this has been asked before so I apologise but I have done a forum search without success. What would be a recommended spray either one off or regular to use on the plants to keep all the beasties away. I am suffering with green and black fly at the moment but thinking also for the ear wigs later. Many thanks. Hi Snute, I use provado ultimate bug killer and vitax 2in1.Both are concentrates and use them alternately. I mix them as the manufacturers instructions and use an 8 litre sprayer. Hope this helps.

I have used bug clear ultra and so far ok. Still a bit of black fly. Main issue I am finding is ants herding anything up the plants.

Had the Kent plant sale on Saturday and was a great success we ran out of everything. I had got some extras I was going to keep back and ended up selling them to late comers.
Very good result.
So dry and hot here getting to 23 to 26 a day and plants suffering with scorch and wilt. Watering heavily now.
Getting front finished tomorrow so I can get more in the ground. Time is racing away.
Took far to many cuttings I am over run with them. Hehe

We hopefully will get better weather once the Dahlias are better established. Raymond try some sunblock in the water if is getting too hot and scorching the leaves. He he only joking it's a joke.

I tell you this the people at work think I have been away some where exotic. Getting a good tan in Costa del Catford.
Front bed done ready to plant . Knackered . Pots arrived finally so can get cracking. A lot of scorched plants looking very sad. Dare not water more or root rot . They are kept damp. they will get a high nitrogen NON EXPLOSIVE feed at the weekend. Hehehe
Stopped Weston pirate Tom mclelland , Hapet ideal and Ruskin andrea.
Binned dame Deirdre from ndc awful looking plant. I think Mayan pearl will be binned as will Marlene joy from station house. Look rubbish sickly and bad habit. The upper leaves not any better than the lower one's. On this rate stillwater brilliant will also be binned.
On a good note Ruskin Michelle a lovely plant as is narrows Sonia and trelyn kiwi. Ruskin Andrea and the two zoe also nice and Ac Abby very nice. Candy and Winholm Diane are ugly plants.
Took of 30 buds today senzoe, zoe, dikara superb and Mary's jomanda all want to flower.
Off to bed rather tired. All done by hand in the front. 400 litres of manure, 200 litres of peat, 300 litres of compost us seaweed meal, rock dust and manure pellets all forked in thoroughly. Will give a rotovate on Thursday and then plant it in after I heavy water the bed.

Hi Raymond you've worked hard and spent a few bob this year so far and I hope you get some success for your efforts . I hope so as well Steve spent rather to much dare not total it up. Let's see knowing my luck after the winds and scorching and drying it will be a plague of spider mites, thrips , locusts etc....... and a monsoon the day before cutting . Will just be happy to get the rest planted and growing well at the moment. What happens after that is in the lap of the dahlia Gods.
