Went to the horticultural shop this morning. Left with 2nd potato bucket, growing instructions, 2 info sheets for the other 2 classes and green plastic twisty ties look just the right size to tie the blooms to a cane on show day, ready for their moments of (hopefully) glory showing off their beauty to all.
Just started to hail. Miniature ice balls bouncing on the patio.

To be honest when I looked close up they were more like Decs....
Miniature ice blue decs - now that would be a popular seedling!

HH found my show envelopes and wanted to know why I hadn't spent the prize money after all the money that I end up spending on the dahlias. Don't want to he doesn't get it (and I know that nobody else would think like this) but what it has done is clarified how I did well in last year.
Intermediate classes: 1 vase of 3 Miniature flowered blooms - Weston Pirate and Weston Corsair 1 vase of 3 Poms - Willo's Violet 1 vase of 3 Small flowered blooms Ryecroft Zoe and Ruskin Myra 1 vase 1 Giant or Large blooms - Trooper Dan
Single Bloom Challenge: Small Cactus / Semi Cactus Ruskin Myra Small Ball - Jomanda Pom - Willo's Violet Any other classification - Nuland's Josephine
So there you go, my £5.75 might not seem very much but to me, it's very special and I'm happy with it in their mini envelopes.
p.s. You can see why I'm having to grow Jomanda again this year. A deals a deal, do well or I'm not growing you again. So it won. The single bloom classes are good because it is open to Beginners and Seniors alike.

I don't quite understand Moonlight.... I assume this town show has already happened ? (because Pirate won a prize). But it is only February ? How did your entries go, and do you have a photograph ? And congratulations to Pirate and her Dahlia ! How are the Hyacinths coming along ?

And congratulations to Pirate and her Dahlia ! How are the Hyacinths coming along ? Sorry Roofy after HH found the show envelopes, I thought that I would look up my town's Autumn show and look up how I did in the dahlia classes and had to mention Pirate's result even now she talks about beating the grown ups. With a bit of luck and a lot of encouragement Fairy might this time round.
They both had a Dec variety each. 1 Small Pirate and 1 Miniature Fairy. In the firm belief that they wouldn't need to compete against each other... or against me (as I don't like Decs).
Well that was the plan but I like dark dahlias and when I saw Marston George I it. I think it is the intense colours that you can get with the Miniature decs, that I feel drawn to. In a similar way to Weston Pirate, that deep red looks almost like velvet on a cold day in the dew.
So there you go the best laid plans...
The Hyacinths Fairy's did well but poor Pirate's has stuck. Half in half out which is a shame but there you go at least one of them got 1 to grow to full flower and they both could see them each day. for next year, as I think that they want to grow them again next year.

You've set me thinking there Moonlight. I've never bothered much with local shows - of ANY type. But I did a bit of Moogling(1) and discovered that my local borough show also has a flower and vegetable competition. It's not until September, but - here's the great bit - it's JUST down the road from me. I could WALK there, even with MY stubby, exercise-averse little legs.
Once more, you have inspired me !!
Notes: (1) Moogling (abr - from Moonlight Googling) (i) (noun) the urge to research something based on reading about it in Moonlights blog. (ii) (verb) the act of doing aforementioned.
