What are tubers ? I normally associate the term with spudlinks, but yours appear to be a hybrid of bulbs and a lobster ? Are tubers just a type of bulb ?

What are tubers ? I normally associate the term with spudlinks, but yours appear to be a hybrid of bulbs and a lobster ? Are tubers just a type of bulb ? I'm not really the right person to answer that question but as a dahlia plant grows from seed or cutting its roots continue to develop and some of the roots expand and form a tuber which from my understanding is the plants store for next years growth. Tubers have eyes which develop into little shoots that you can take cuttings from or you can just plant the entire tuber to just relocate an existing plant or you can split a tuber to make more plants. In the US it is the norm to dig the tubers up, drain them and wash them clean of all dirt and then chop them into pieces each piece having a part of the stem where an eye can develop.
I call them lobes because they are bits off of a tuber but people call them tubers. A bit of a tuber or an entire tuber it is still a tuber to them. Pot tubers are plants that have been planted in their pots to force the plant to develop smaller tubers.
I think that I have answered your question but talking with you just makes me think of
A bulb is a bulb but it is isn't a tuber, similar in some ways but very different but a potato is a tuber.

Thanks for that Moonlight, it was very helpful.
