Pirate was able to collect 5 seeds from her dahlia last year which she is going to plant sow. Poor Fairy didn't have any seeds to collect from her dahlia but I have an idea. Fairy was able to pick out seed from seed heads, so she has done that part I was able to collect a little seed from my Fred seedling. Our plan is she is going to plant sow those seeds and we will look after them together. She rather likes this idea as nowhere else in the world has seeds like these and because they are from Fred, they are extra special. We will do that tomorrow
So Pirate will have her special seeds and Fairy will have hers. I really want Fairy to be fully involved in this, rather than give up because her dahlia wasn't as successful has hers.
Both girls are very up for this.

Moonlight, do Fairy and Pirate read this forum ? If so.. then I can only add.... Fairy, don't lose heart. Sometimes, things don't go the way you hoped. (read my blog about my greenhouse flying away... or all my Dhalias dying). Nature can be cruel sometimes. Or.. perhaps not cruel.. just... disorganised ?? We just have to fight on. If the seeds don't germinate... plant some more. If the flowers don't produce seeds, then HIT THEM WITH A STICK... and plant some more (just kidding.. you shouldn't REALLY hit them with a stick. Well.. unless they are rude to you or something. )

Only the good bits told them at breakfast that you have put in a request for their progress reports on the potatoes and they thought that I was joking. 2 keen little girls on that one. I will certainly get Fairy to read your post. I know that she will really like it and you'll get a reply.

I look forwards to that .. especially the potatoes. Perhaps I ought to file some progress reports in the Spud Thread myself ?

Well actually they are here but they won't give them to us. Customs and Excise decided in their infinite wisdom to open the parcel and we have to pay Royal Mail an additional £8 (probably just because they had our postman deliver a card saying that they won't deliver the parcel) on top of that. That's an additional £11.40 on top of all the paperwork, plant certification, overseas postage and of course the tubers themselves. My Dad is seriously not a happy bunny.

That's a pain moonlight something to mention to your dad. Peter's dahlien in Austria has some USA one's I got Clearview Debby and Ac Abby from him. Small field tubers that have thrown very well. Check on his website in future as you don't pay any duty or have to get certificates and you also get the tubers in November so can start them earlier. Just something to consider . Not all varieties are on the website but there is a download list In pdf or excel format. He is finished for this season.
