My seedlings from the 1st 3 days of sowing are in my greenhouse with it's window and door open. I'll bring them back up tonight. At lunch time / as soon as it gets really sunny, I'll cover days 2 and 3 with a sheet of newspaper. Day 1 seedlings will be remaining naked o natural. My later seedlings are still indoors by the window with my sown seeds are near the window.
Time to crack on.

I have some very naughty dahlias with buds on. Some naughty dahlias without their buds on and it wasn't difficult to spot the ringleader.

Plan for today (as much as we ever have one) is to buy some flower pots and compost. My dahlia plants need potting up. I want them to be the same size and shape to (in theory) use the same amount of space (which I don't have a lot of) and make it easier to rearrange positions when I need to. Well that's my plan.

Very, very behind on my photo updates. Well today, I potted up all my dahlia plants that I could see the roots coming through in their pots. Also came face to worm with a couple of worms that had decided to live in the compost - don't really know how that happened. Tried to pick out all the blue granules because I don't want to kill them with the slug and snail killer. The pots that I bought are larger than I wanted because I don't want to encourage the plants to grow big before planting but you go with what you can and the black ones that I bought were cheaper than the plastic terracotta ones that were a size up. £1.30 for 10 pots, a lot cheaper than I've seen around here.
Girls have been busy with the potatoes. Got out some rather wet manure for them to use on their potatoes, Pirate dutifully put her hands in and took some out. I shan't repeat the number of descriptive comments she made, too many to list but "Eeeewwww, it's like putting your hands in wet slimy poo..." was one of them.
Had to buy the clover compost which the girls don't like, it feels light and fluffy and I mixed what compost I had left with the clover compost. It has a different smell to it than any of the other composts I've used and the girls really don't like it. (I'm not a fan either).
Clover compost was even less popular when Fairy fell over the sack ()(which was upright and propted up against the green house) and scraped off all of the rather nasty looking scab that she already had. The only good thing is that other than the graze she hadn't done anything worse (like fall through the glass greenhouse itself) but there was lots of blood. Felt really sorry for her and her leg looked pretty grim and she has got swimming tomorrow.
I sent a message through the online shop that had a seller that was selling the S B plant invigorator who sent it out a while back but I've not received it. They have sent another bottle on Friday so with the bank holiday, it won't get here until Tuesday or Wednesday at the earliest which is a bit of a bummer as I won't be able to use it until Thursday at the earliest. I'd like it sooner because I think that they could do with beefing up a bit. Bless 'em.
Girls have chosen their garden gloves of choice and they are going to help clear the garden of random flower pots and large cobbles. Poor HH is desperate to get the lawn cut but there are too many random things around.
So all in all very bitty but I'm sure that we will get there in the end. Well at least I really hope so. Lots of fingers crossed this end.

Very, very, very pleased to announce that the 2missing fence panels have finally been replaced. Returned home from trip to Doctors vote and chemist to discover my Mum assisting My Dad attempt to put panel up on their own. The plan was that it would be Dad and HH together. Well it was HH to the rescue and with a step ladder, paving slabs and a lot of dangerous wolloping, the panels slid down into position. One less stress for our neighbours and us. Always dreaded going down the garden because thought they might have a go at me. One less thing.

My Dad is happy with the way that his tubers are doing in my greenhouse.
I've planted mine in a pot. Asked my Dad if he wanted me to put his in pots. Told me yes, then said I could have them. Not sure about that one but I'll put them in a pot for him. Narrows Tyler NTAC Patricia

My 1st 2 or 3 seedlings that failed are those that are very pale and the paler ones are not able to photosyntheses which they need to survive. So no surprises there not worried about that.
Not a problem considering how many seedlings that I have.

Time to pot up my 1st 4 seedlings as their roots are now peeping through the holes in their tray cells. Rather in depth discussion and the girls and I have agreed that the Brenda T seedlings will be going in the lilac pots. Pirate has to be the RED and the girls want Eastwood Moonlight to go in the yellow. Of my 2 pom seedling varieties the girls wanted light pink and dark pink but as I wanted them to look different from each other, currently it is just Nuland's Josephine in the light pink, so far.
So it will be 1 Brenda T sown on the 24.4 (Top left pink label, top left column) and 2 Nuland's Josephine sown (Top left column with a yellow label) on 24.4 and another from 25.4 (3rd column and yellow label) that are going to be done 1st. The 3 red ones are Water lilly dahlias sown in May which is why they are so small (ran out of room in the 2nd tray).
Admittedly this might all sound very tedious even though colourful but (currently) I plan to grow them in buckets like last year and label them Bill 1, Bill 2 etc. in blocks variety and type. Something like Poms, Large poms, Mini Dec, Small Dec, Min semi/cactus * Small semi / cactus and Medium semi / cactus. *with Spanish Dancer somewhere in the middle

This has taken me ages to put these 2 posts together.
I've mentioned before that my Dad had been working on his back garden. Last year the seedlings that were under the trees didn't like it, the drainage has been a real problem and he wasn't happy with the soil. He wanted to get rid of the trees, our family friend wasn't able to help like he had hoped so he tackled the trees himself, cut the branches down and dug the roots out. He did what he could and dug down double double deep and it looked like he had a giant mole in the garden. Then his friend was able to come round with his digger and well I think that you can spot the difference...

Drainage This is at the bottom of the garden - the greenhouse is on the right at the other end. This is where Dad grew his Anemone dahlias last year.
With my back to the greenhouse...
facing the greenhouse...
So there you go (looking down the garden with my back to the greenhouse) a bit more to go.
on the + side Dad has got a lot more of the trees out which = more space and light for his dahlias on the -ive all his lovely deep, deep digging... Squashed!
