There I was all happy, planning my collerettes planting positions go down to the greenhouse and it looks like everything is being attacked. Posted my sos on the dahlia 2015 thread, basically because I don't want to make things worse by killing the plants off along with the bug killer. I get a reply soon. Horticultural shop isn't open long and I don't want to miss it.

I ought to have a quiet day at the 'office' ie here at home at Dahlia central because I've either saved the day spraying them or I've killed them all whilst trying to save them all from the bugs. Fingers crossed big time on that one.

Now that you've both made me nervous. I used Ultimate Bug Spray. I bought some from the garden association but I didn't know if I had got the right stuff because it is in a different bottle. This is the stuff that I bought at the garden association we were on the way home and we made a detour to Mum and Dad's and Dad gave me some of this: which is what I've used before.
I left everything in the garden all night I felt if any slug or snail wanted to eat them they would at the very least get a tummy ache.

Moonlight many of mine look sad shredded pitted mess as bashed to bits by hail last week. They are coming on and responding as ian said if the roots are strong the dahlia is a resiliant plant. Yours will be fine Just be on the look out. some of my lupins got eaten by something but have given a good spray and they are responding.

Rang my Dad today, asked if he still had my Jomanda tuber and if it was ok. "Unfortunately," he replied, "Too well." Apparently it is sprouting out all over the place...
It's highly likely that he thinks that I am daft but a Deal is a Deal - win something and I'll grow you next year. It won, Mary's didn't. So I've not kept my Mary's but I believe I've got something a lot better
Actually I'm not growing that many Balls this year. Downham Royal (gotta love a drop of PURPLE), Mary's, Jo, Sheila and Blyton Softer Gleam. I've actually got a lot more Decs but different focus. I want to win at least 1 of the Ball classes at our local show but with the Decs I want those deep colours on the Pollen Menu for those bees. In an ideal world I'd use anything other than a Mary's or Jo in a Ball class at show and Blyton Softer Gleam scored at the biggies and beat Mary's / Jo in the small Ball category.
So it is worth ago.

Bill Seedlings 2015 Update.
I now have 66 seedlings all of which have been potted up into their multicoloured pots for what feels like ages.
Last year I had Fred (1 Miniature Ball and 10 Small Ball & 2 Miniature Cactus and 4 Medium Semi-Cactus) 17 Fred Seedlings in total (+ all the ones that I gave my Dad to grow on because they were seed collected from Staleen Condessa and far too tall. I had loads and I didn't want a seedling forest.) Will less seedlings I was able to label them as:
Fred 1-2 Weston Spanish Dancer Fred 3 Downham Royal Fred 4-7 Eastwood Moonlight Fred 8 -17 Red Balloon
Not going to do it like that with Bill 1 - 66 because that is too many. Imagine: Bill 29, Bill 30, Bill, 31....... Bill 44, Bill 45, Bill 46, Bill 47 etc... sounds silly, a bit of a faff and hardly memorable.
So what I am going to have to do is have: Bill P: 1-5 (= Willo's Violet seedlings) Bill LP: 1-17 (= Nuland's Josephine seedlings) Bill D: 1-8 (= 3 Marston George and 5 Brenda T seedlings) Bill W: 1-4 (= Edwin's Sunset) But there are 32 Min/Dual/Small/Medium Cactus/ Semi Cactus, so the best that I can come up with a split between cactus Mother seed and semi cactus Mother seed. Bill C: 1-11 (= 1 Weston Pirate, 10 Weston Spanish Dancer) Bill S/C: 1-21 (= 11 Ryecroft Zoe, 2 Eastwood Moonlight and 8 Peach Delight)
Any flowers good enough to earn the status of 'Red Wool' (and be grown again next year) will be then renamed Bill 1, Bill 2, etc. for 2016, as the idea of keeping Bill P:5, Bill LP: 15, Bill D:5 doesn't work for me n.b. I am not assuming that any will be good enough to be a keeper.
Might all be as clear as mud right now but somehow I've got to make it make sense to me, before I start planting them in the garden.
