Great pictures dcdahlia some cracking blooms. Seen some cracking oakwoods this year. Really classy bloom trialled a cherwell and I liked it. I will either grow an Oakwood or try jersie again next year. Still to decide. A cactus would be more useful than another semi cactus but jersie has terrible petal lay for me currently. Love those moonlights. Tempted to try one but keep being told a waste of time down here. Clearview edie I am trialling 7 up as a medium. It looks promising to my novice eye . Much fuller than candy but it will be close to the ring. Maybe 8 up or 7 of a side bud might be better . Very strong growing plant and very tall. Love Phil's kiwis superb. Had some crackers at wisley.. ste b what you think of Ruskin avenger ? |

Avenger is good if you have no covers , it's ok for local shows a good back up dahlia , Jack gott had a good vase at malvern , I've only grown it once it does not have lots of growth it's easy to work on it's all stems good grower , of all the Ruskin dahlias it's Stan Pennington favourite dahlia I think it would do better under cover.

Thanks Raymond I didn't expect to win with them oakwoods I had 4 great blooms but the bottom right was smaller and had a slight bend in the stem and couldn't get it to sit right.Moonlights would defo need covering Raymond.I grew cream for the first time this year Ste only had 10 plants in 5 up but I was impressed with it I managed to get 5 vases shown but if I had to choose I would go for eastwood you can grow it 6 up and it doesn't damp as easy as cream,I had 28 plants of eastwood in and had about 16 vases in 3 weeks.I will be growing both again next year and am thinking of trying white moonlight too.

I agree with you Ian , Eastwood has the edge over cream moonlight for me as well because of the damping off issue that's why am growing more Eastwood next season only had 10 plants in , but it did the the business for me at southport. All your small semi cactus where good at Harrogate , your oakwoods where superb mate.

Been trying to get an entry in the small semi cactus championship for 3 years Ste but was making oakwood late by messing about with it to much left it alone this year and it was ruskin myra I was sweating on what I took to Harrogate were the first myra off,I had some really good ones later and won a few prizes with it.Looking through my photos it looks like I forgot to take one of the championship class,thats what being awake all night does to you.More photos to follow
