Nice one Ian, becoming a habit all these red cards! I liked the look of your Barbarry Surprise at Rammy, clearly it's a winner. I got a first + second in Dahlias at my show in Woolston yesterday with little competition. They also had a 'funny shaped vegetable' class which probably tells you it wasn't that serious a show! hmmm, I won that class too.

Aww.....well done @raymond. Have been on tenterhooks all day wondering how you did. there'll be no stopping yu next season..... xx Have a rest now xx You where me lucky charm Lou saying you never know. I pulled it off at the last minute. I tried an experiment and it worked partly. Cut some blooms early with a slightly open centre and put some chempak no 2 in the cutting water and the centre closed. Was worth a shot. Now I need to decide on what to grow next year. Got a show on the 16th now that I hope I will have wyns and senzoe Ursula for and garden friends. Will cut a lot less and the best stuff. Need to water and feed as away for four days from Wednesday. Awww thanks Raymond You did yourself proud pet ...never say "never" eh.....

I did my first ever Dahlia show yesterday organised by the Beverley and district Chrysanthemum and Dahlia society, and was a steep learning curve. I entered 10 of the 12 classes, I felt very disappointed at staging when I saw the quality of the other competitors blooms, but did ok..
2 x firsts .......1 vase of 3, (mary's jomanda), 2 vases 3 of small ball (Hamari Rose and Blyton Golden girl) 1 x second.......2 vases 3 medium Semi Cactus (Kenora challenger and Grenador Pastelle) 2 x thirds.........2 Vases Specimen Large or Giant (Kenora Valentine and Trooper Dan.) 1 vase of 3 Small or mini dec (Ruskin Danne) Cup for the best Novice And the main cup for most amassed points

You seem to know what you're doing, never mind learning curve! btw anything with 'Valentine' in the name has to be a great Dahlia! Well done again.

Well done Alan at Beverley yesterday you were in good company and to win what you did was great you were competing with the likes of Dave Fowler (National champion with Medium semis on many occasions) Niel Dykes a well seasoned grower and a few other good growers so you did very very well indeed. Just a question how did you get away with showing Challenger in a medium semi class? To win 5 awards including 2 firsts on your first show you did very very well indeed.

alan0747 well done mate. Fantastic result much better than my achievement which I am ecstatic with. I did not show a single Mary's ! Hahaha and my mediums where only large smalls. Truly rubbish. I have a lot to learn but I know this you will grow better dahlias next year as will I. It takes time , experience and practise. Well done !

Hi David, congratulations on your success at Woolston yesterday, there may not have been a lot of competition but these are the grass roots of our chosen flower and without these feeder shows (which are becoming less as the years go by) we have no National shows so the more you show the better and keep spreading the word. I won't ask what the funny shaped vegetable was shaped like hehe, but very well done. Ian

Looks like Mr David Spencer cleaned up at the National winning the main Terry Clarke Individual Championship (after winning it last some 31 years ago) and many more. a fantastic ambassador for the Dahlia
