Had my second show tonight in Kent . Will be my last for the season. As torrential rain today ruined a lot of stuff. 1st 3blooms small semi cactus with ryecroft zoe. My zoe sport not so good this time . Stems a bit ben :-*t. 1st and third in single bloom collarette using two seedlings. 2nd small Dec using 2 winholm Diane and 1 senzoe Ursula . Would have used two senzoe but one the head broke of in the car. 2nd 3blooms min Dec with dikara superb. Arrived late due to heavy traffic so didn't get all staged that I wanted to. Was not going to even go as have not been to well this week due to an infection. On antibiotics which are finally working. Pleased I went. Showed a cherwell goldcrest in a mixed vase with 2 zoe also. Looked nice will grow one of the goldcrest next year and as usual some lovely cakes from Bill franklin who I finally realised is the raiser with the prefix lismore . Well done Raymond the odds may have been against you but you should be proud of your achievements this year. I'll second that...well done pet

Very pleased Moonlight delighted and also frustrated as ran out of time yesterday. Had a look at the plants today and anything still upright on a straight stem ruined for Sunday for the Kent fed show which I am stewarding anyway. Got a lot of tidying up and dead heading to do.

Well done Raymond Dave Spencer will soon be asking you for advice. See you at Harrogate? ?? No harrogate Ian got to work. I very Much doubt Dave Spencer will ever need advise off me ! Haha I will be asking his advise later on, on which to drop and keep and how to grow some varieties better. Enjoyed this year some things great some things rubbish. Tried some novelties but now is the challenge to improve on everything ! Lol Good luck at harrogate

Sounds good - you'll loads, get to really understand what judges are looking for.

Good Luck to everyone exhibiting at Harrogate and in shows at the weekend.
May the best dahlia win and no controversial decisions. Good Luck with your dahlias and coping with the lack of sleep.
p.s. Don't forget the photos! p.p.s. Especially keen to see photos of the seedlings, the Waterlily, Bi-colour - class 93 and Class 77, Colour class - 79 and Class 95 - hoping that there will be an Anemone dahlia.

Well done Raymond, excellent first season for you. Enjoy the stewarding, as moonlight says, you will learn loads from watching/listening to the judges.
Good luck to everyone exhibiting this weekend.

Thanks Moonlight and markb nice to have you back with us Mark. Hope you have had a good season mate. Will be second time stewarding. Enjoyed the first. I always thought centre was the most important thing which it is if green. First time they really focussed on petal lay and any swirling in the petal especially on large and giants also gaps in the petal. Will be interesting to see a different judge at work.

Well done Raymond , hope you keep the good work going for next year the only way to improve is to keep on exihibiting , not having a year off !? I will exhibit again next year Steve. I enjoyed it although I made it harder work than I should have. Now got to focus more drop a lot . Add a couple of new things. Mediums need a lot of work to get to better size. I found it easy to get the smalls to size semi cactus and decs. A lot of zoe now even going over size. Will add in Oakwood goldcrest for next year. My goldcrest was actually a cherwell. Nice bloom and took the weather pretty well too similar to Jersie in colour which will get one more trail year grown like a kiwi . Got to rig some temporary covers for next year even if umbrellas.

Thanks, Raymond. Not done much this season due to the first five months of the year being lost to family health issues and uncertainty over allotment future so just did what I could with the veg and left the dahlias in the ground. Did manage some entries in our local show which got some cards and kept the interest going.
