I don't want to sound miserable, but although I enjoyed Christmas Day, I must say I feel relieved it's over. I can look forward to the days lengthening now, and being in the garden when the spring comes

I agree @hywel, we just have to get 'New Year' out of the way & we can look forward to spring!

@hywel I think you were cooking caramelized parsnips. They would be lovely.
I came out of a house that had Father Christmas sitting on every stair and around every shelf. The Christmas music was relentless for days. Every day something new appeared on the window ledges in the shape of candles, etc. Steven just gives in to his partner at Christmas.
Geoffrey's flat has clear shelves, and lights around the skinny hall table which doubles as a shoe tidy so shoes are not seen. The Christmas tree says it all. We watched Kings College Choir on Christmas Eve and The Queen at 3 pm on Christmas Day. Natasha is the vet on call, so she cooked her first Christmas dinner which was lovely of course. Roast duck.
The boys are not too different but their partners are.

They were black and rock hard Cherry ! You'd never be able to eat them I made some more today and they were lovely
I don't like those modern Christmas songs - I find them boring and meaningless, but I do like some tasteful decorations

The days will fly by now and before we know it we will be thinking about next Christmas. We all spared a thought for those poor flooded out folks up north.

Rosie I used your 'streusel' idea & put crumble on top of my mince pies, made a few more because I had some mincemeat & brandy butter left!

I must admit that I'm glad Christmas is behind us - it was a very tiring day with over 6 hours' travelling, but it was worth it to be with our family. We are all very worried about my sister, though. She seems to have aged 5 years since last year. Sad to see her in decline. My son-in-law has grown a halo - he and his father have been amazing helping her, and rescuing our granddaughter whose car broke down on the way home Christmas Eve. Lots of drama! My lemon icing topped mince pies were very popular and my OH has ordered another batch!

With all my fuschia's in bud, the bluebells coming up a month or so early, and crocus in flower, my garden thinks it's well into spring already!
Hope everyone had a lovely Christmas. Seeing one of my nephews take a couple of steps was as good as any present as I could wish for.
