Are you really daithegrinch daitheplant ?
I like Christmas, especially if I had someone to share the festivities with, and not spend a week holed up in the kitchen.
As a special treat, I bought a Dover Sole, in Icicleland, to have for my birthday lunch just after Boxing Day. I thought it would be a change from cold chicken! Your birthday is the day after Boxing Day ? Afraid so Roofy. Occasionally, it finds itself on Boxing Day, when it happens on a Monday, too.
I so wanted a summer birthday

Thank you SueA. It's usually spent on my own, as there are no bus services to go anywhere. Our Sunday service, for holiday days, is a 'no service'

I love Dover Sole It's nicer than turkey ...... It most certainly is.... I hate turkey, and I grew up 20mls from the Straits of Dover, so small soles were often on the table at home.

I have almost finished the lot - letter written to enclose with 4 cards, all pressies wrapped, cards written, only one more pressy to buy and that's it. I have never been so ahead of myself before!

Geranium you would not be ever so slightly smug would you? I am sure we are all jealous. dianthus if only you lived nearer to forum members. My husband will be on his own too, but he is very second hand and would not be good company. In Australia a lot of people visit friends instead of family at Christmas because they are so far away from relations. We always had turkey and roast and Christmas pudding, but in the tropics it is changing and quite right too. I am Victorian in nature and birth. I am visiting my younger son for Christmas Day because Natasha is the vet on duty. Elder son, where I am now has his Dad (my first husband) and his partner for the day. He and his partner came in for a visit yesterday.

We haven't started any Christmas preparations yet. Beryl has been so unwell since the summer, that we haven't been able to do anything really. And the place is in such a mess ... (don't ask !)

@hywel you can't help the mess, but perhaps you ought to buy some Christmas lights to put somewhere. If you bought a small string of them, they would look good over a branch of fir tree in a vase or pot. Beryl could use a bit of good cheer and you need a lift. I hope you don't think I am being cheeky.

Having a December birthday myself Di, I agree with you. As a child, I never had a "birthday" present. I was always told to pick something from beneath the Christmas tree. Cherry. You are Victorian by birth? You were born BEFORE 1901?

Yes, I'm Victorian because I come from Victoria.
I was born in 100 deg.F. temperature and there was no air conditioning at that time. It was always holiday time on my birthday too. Now it is often freezing and I never go out to dinner because of the office parties on at the restaurants.
