Afraid so Roofy. Occasionally, it finds itself on Boxing Day, when it happens on a Monday, too.
I so wanted a summer birthday
Having a December birthday myself Di, I agree with you. As a child, I never had a "birthday" present. I was always told to pick something from beneath the Christmas tree. Cherry. You are Victorian by birth? You were born BEFORE 1901? Sharing a birthday present / card/ cake with your twin sister, isn't too great, either, Dai.
My aunt and godmother was born before 1901, so she was a Victorian

Yes, I'm Victorian because I come from Victoria. I was born in 100 deg.F. temperature and there was no air conditioning at that time. It was always holiday time on my birthday too. Now it is often freezing and I never go out to dinner because of the office parties on at the restaurants. I agree with you Cherry. My family never took the two of us out for a birthday dinner, either.
Will your Christmas 2016 be a warm one?

No you're not being cheeky Cherry. It's a good idea ... thank you There are some lights up the attic somewhere, but there's even a mess up there - it's a long story (and boring so I won't mention it !) and they're probably not working anyway, so a new set is best I think

Why not, @hywel - it will definitely give you both a 'lift' which I think is needed in your house. Is Beryl any better? Cherry, of course I'm smug! It does make a nice change from struggling to meet the last posting date, though. Now, what shall I do for the next 19 days? We don't bother with decorations apart from a tree, which we plan to get this week. The huge beam above the inglenook is ideal for stringing up the cards and that's the total of our 'efforts' - oh, apart from a wreath on the front door. Hmmm...I think cleaning and tidying the house will keep me occupied. We need a radical clear out, especially of books - and my clothes, too.

@hywel I noticed some short strings of lights for putting on the mantelpiece, but these would be alright for a short tree branch. You seem to have the idea anyway. I am very 'bah humbug' but I have been to loads of Christmas displays with my son's partner. I can remember spending Christmas with my first husband's grandmother and we had chicken soup and boiled chicken for the festive lunch. It was not a general holiday either.

My card to my s.i.l. in California arrived on Saturday - it took a week to get there. Not bad, really. We had a parcel delivery when I came home from Church - it's rather incongruous - a van which delivers pet food also acts as a courier for Hermes, I think - and he had just been to us - odd on a Sunday! (It was for me from my OH! )

Our Hermes courier regularly delivers on a Sunday...particularly at this time of year. Its one way of finding customers at home I suppose.....

I'm sorry I hadn't noticed your question Geranium ... Yes Beryl is improving albeit slowly. Thank you for asking. She has special stockings from the hospital which they say will help reduce the swelling in her legs. But she still has trouble getting in and out of bed. I have to help her. Sometimes to get up from a chair as well. But because of the problems I have myself, it is difficult.
A medical person visited today (I don't know who she was - so many people have been involved and I can't seem to remember them all) and she said we have to be patient because it will take time for the swelling to go down. As long as it does, I don't mind.

I suppose we were lucky he left it in the porch. We are going to buy our Christmas tree today, and look for outside lights, too. @hywel, sorry to hear about Beryl's troubles and I hope she's better soon. It must be difficult for you both.

I thought you were going to say a nurse was going to come in to help @hywel. I expect we are better off getting on with things ourselves.
