Hi Cat, thanks for taking the time to reply.
I've taken the buds off the plants this morning. Luckily the plants are recommended to be double stopped so hopefully they will all settle down now.
Thanks again.

Count down to planting out has started. Q4 raked in and the paths laid out. Just need to lay out the covers for the beds nearer to planting out in a months time.
Good luck to everyone planting out their dahlias soon.

Hi johndoe, Your set-up is just so professional looking. Superb!
Great news that the National show is going ahead. Would this mean there is a chance that Harrogate (New venue) will also be going ahead? It's still on my bucket list to get to Harrogate show to see the dahlias!!

Hi JJ, thank you for your kind words. I try my best to keep everything neat and tidy.
I'm a bit sceptical about the new National show date, as I just can't see things being safe enough to have such a large gathering over five days, but we'll see what the future brings. Regarding Newby Hall, there is no information at all at the present time, I expect the organizer's are leaving it as late as possible, they've sunk a load of money getting the event and publicity. At the moment our hotel reservation still stands. I know the NDS Northern committee have put a lot of work into the show after all the years at Harrogate, so fingers crossed for the Northern National.
Good luck with all your dahlias this year, JJ

It is so hot here this morning I have had to come in. I have planted out a dozen new varieties of collerette and single dahlias this morning that have come from a generous friend and Halls of Heddon and this afternoon I will plant out the rest of our collerettes that we have taken as cuttings. With the ones we left in the borders overwinter we now have about 50 collerettes and singles. This is ideal because our neighbour has just bought a beehive so Hopefully this will help him.

Not to cool here either, Cat. Was up at the allotment to water at 5.00am and then to soak the holes and plants ready for planting out. Jill planted out 63(lost one Valentine sadly) while I dug the next 80 holes. That'll be both main plots done with just the two smaller ones to do. Then I can put my feet up for a couple days till I have to get the wire plant supports ready.
Hope you're all well down there in sunny Cornwall.

Hi johndoe yes we are fairing well here other than the heat. I hope to plant out main plot in the next week. with our cuttings being a little later than some of you growers with more advanced set ups I just want the plants to be a touch bigger before they face the cornish stony ground we have. I am pleased with what we have and hope to time the main plants for September onwards. We shall see lol. Take care

Well, now we have confirmation that the National which they were trying to put on at Hampton Court has now been cancelled. As has the Newby Hall(Harrogate) show. Feel so sad for Newby Hall as they put so much work into getting the Harrogate flower festival to this new venue, and I know all the dahlia exhibitor's where looking forward to show at its new home. Roll on 2021!!
So no shows for me this year, just going to experiment a bit and have some fun without the worry of getting blooms ready for shows. Everything is coming along lovely, especially with the recent rainfall. Plants growing away and will be ready for chopping back at the end of the month.
Hope everyone is keeping safe and well, happy growing to you all.

It is sad that there'll be no shows this year johndoe but as you say it will give you a chance to experiment - & lots of cut flowers for your home, friends & family!

johndoe perhaps now with today's announcement you are entering the independent show at Chelmsford 10th september? Hello Cat. Yes it's an unexpected development. Looks like Dave Gillam has worked a stroke of magic at he's garden centre, I've put my hat in the ring, so we will see how things pan out. I know he has managed to get some of the top exhibitors in the country lined up, so the standard will be quite high. Strategy for the season has now changed a bit, but still want to experiment, a bit of dahlia juggling will be the order of the day, me thinks.
Hope you, Che and the family are safe and well.
