I bought another two tomatoes today - now what were they ? I'll have to tell you tomorrow, I've put them in the shelter down the garden and it's raining now so I won't go and look until it stops. I want Roma but couldn't find it in the garden centre today so I'm hoping they'll have one in Carmarthen when I go next week.
I've also got a cucumber and two peppers, red and yellow.

I found a self-sown tomato seedling in a pot inside the mini-greenhouse this afternoon! How it got there I've no idea! Anyway I took it out of the pot it was sharing with a Pelargonium cutting & put it in a pot of its own. It only has seed leaves at present but by next weekend it will probably have its first set of true leaves.

I bought a tomato called Rapunzel. It has cerry-size fruits but it is not one for outside. I've been looking for a Roma plant but can't find any. I'll keep trying

I'll keep trying I had a look online & it seems you've got yourself a lovely tomato! Seem it can produce up to 40 small toms per truss! Let us know how you get on with them.

I'll do that balc2 , I bought it because being small cherry-size tomatoes I thought it would grow outside. It said nothing on the label. However after looking it up on line I see it is best grown in a greenhouse, and since my greenhouse is full of cacti (which always have priority ) I shall have to find room in one of my perspex shelters for it. I'll let you know ...

I have to buy my tomatoes now as I have no greenhouse here. I ordered 3 Gardeners Delight and they arrived fitting in an envelope. I could have sowed seeds on the window ledge. Anyway, they have been potted on twice and are successful so far. I hope they will be ok outside. Last year the tomatoes were good outside, and they were varieties I had never heard of and all that was left in the garden centre.

My self-sown tomato seed is still looking good even after a week of lower than average temps. I can't say the same for the seedlings from the seeds I sowed on 21st March. i'd be too embarrassed to upload a picture of them! As we had such cold & winter weather last week I brought them back into the kitchen but they look very sorry for themselves! I'm wondering if perhaps sowing a few seeds now if they would catch up? I remember one year I took part in a tomato growing trail. I sent in my application, which was accepted, but didn't receive the actual seeds till the middle of May! However I did sow 3 seeds & got 100% germination. The went on to produce some tomatoes & they were a big beef type of tomato which I had never grow before. I've always preferred to salad size ones or cherry type, so I was pleased really! The seeds that were left over I sowed the following year & got 100% germination rate I think & some nice big tomatoes that summer. So I think I will sow a few seeds - as insurance really in case the March sown ones don't do well!

I am sure seeds now will soon catch up. It is still only April.

I potted up a lot of my tomatoes but they are in the cold greenhouse area with no bottom heat and haven't grown very much . I might put a few back in the propagator but space is limited and there are more flower seedling to prick out ... i think i might need another greenhouse.

The self-sown tomato seedling which I potted up a couple of weeks ago is looking very strong and sturdy, 100% better than any of the seeds I sowed on March 21st in the propagator in the kitchen! I almost wish I'd waited longer to sow them & had done it on the balcony!

I've planted four 'outdoor' tomatoes - three in a Belfast sink and one in a pot. I only bought three but there were two plants in one of the pots

I've finally repotted the 'Gardeners Delight' tomato seedling that have been "languishing" in the kitchen for weeks!I put them in deep yoghurt pots that I had been saving for a long time precisely for the tomato seedlings! I buried half the length of the stems in the compost hoping they will root & become sturdier plants that I can plant out in some growbags next month.
I've just noticed that I don't have a more recent photo of the self-sown tomato seedling on the balcony so I shall have to remedy that tomorrow! It's so much healthier & sturdy than the ones I sowed in the heated propagator back on 21st March! Perhaps next year I'll wait perhaps a month more before sowing them. I haven't gained anything by sowing them back then! Just the opposite in fact! I'm sure the self-sown plant will grow better all summer & give me more fruit than all the others! Time will tell! At least I seem to have chosen a good moment to do this as it seems that all next week the temps are going to be higher than we have had is some time!

I've just realised - the self-sown tomato is in the photo above! See if you can spot which one it is!
