all my acers are good too, apart from the one, think the dieback is weather related so I'll get rid of the dead parts

After some thought I decided that as Magnolias aren't quite as fussy as Acers and it only cost £10, I'd plant it. I dug out an enormous amount of soil and filled with peaty compost and put 'Root grow' under it. All I need now is to know what it is.

It would be lovely to see one of those yellow-flowered ones! I have three Acers - two just had a few tips damaged, the other has a branch that seeems to be dead. It would be the one on the bank - up the steps again!

I was in town today, popped into Wilcos for stationary. I accidentally bought a couple of plants. A Rogue Cardinal and an Acer 'Little Princess' to console me for the loss of my Orange dream which they didn't have. Well the both only came to £7.

The two we have the leaves are not fully open yet, at least they survived the winter, even though they are in pots.

My new yellow one has no buds on it's long trunk but I see a 2" shoot at the base. Could it be a sucker or are they not grafted?
