I doubt it's an Osmunda Steve, it says in your link that it needs Acidic soil and experience lol Here's a pic whan in bud. [

I agree, it does have the look of Osmunda regalis.....just the look of it though, not an actual fern.

The flowers on 'Sem' are rounder panicles - if I could get tinypic to work I could post a photo for you. My brain hurts - I'm sure I know the name of Merlin's shrub - it has 'grandiflora' on the end of it.

Lou, next time you are at Belsay, look at the huge clumps of S. sorbifolia just before you go into the quarry garden by the metal gate across the path.
