What a super butterfly. I don't think I have seen one of those. Your Achillea is pretty too SueA and the lily is gorgeous.

I think gatekeepers are fairly common Cherry , we get them every year, they're supposed to signify the height of summer when they appear so they've got that right this year! The lilies are lovely but I don't think any of mine which have come out so far have scent which is disappointing.

My lilies are over for this year. I don't think they had any scent, either.

Geranium I usually have 'Stargazers' which have a lot of scent but they've eventually given up the ghost after many years & unless any come up from my 'unknown' selection I don't think I have any, it doesn't seem right having lilies without any scent does it.

SueA I know you always had Stargazers. They were one of the early spectacular lilies. My pots looked pretty, but are not as good in pots the second year, so they are going into the garden now to take their chances. The lilies in the garden are fabulous as usual and some are just coming out. I agree with Geranium that they now lack scent. I did not buy any extra this year because I am sick of lily beetle. I still have loads though.

Cherry, I have all mine in pots as well - and every day, I put each pot into the wheelbarrow. If there are any 'lbs', they're easy to spot and deal with. If they drop off, they fall in the barrow...no escape!

That is a good tip Geranium. It should be on the 'tips' thread. I am putting my lilies in the ground when they go over and they will look after themselves.

I took a pot of spent lilies out of the border yesterday and it had lily beetle larvae all over it. It was clean when I put it there! A few pictures taken yesterday. Campanula 'Bernice'. My one and only Alstromeria - saved from snails by a copper ring! Diascia personata - a really super plant.

That is a lovely selection Geranium. The Campanula is not too heavy as some I have had in the past and the Diascia is different to all I have seen before. I wonder if it is hardy.

I planted it four years ago, Cherry, so it's hardy here! It gets better and better each year, too.

What a gorgeous Diascia - I've never seen one that big. I Googled hardy Diascias out of interest, I'm quite fond of Diascias as they were the first plants I bought here. Seems to be at least 3 types of hardy Diascias that look similar to yours, so I'm not much wiser, but they're all nice and affordable! I have a similar Alstomeria too but it's not out yet. It had a nasty accident when I nearly drowned it by forgetting it was left in a bowl of water for a loooong time, oh dear! Copper actually keeps your snails at bay? I swear they build bridges over the stuff I use

This was the final 'go' at Alstros, Bess. Every other one I've tried has been eaten by snails, but the two copper rings saved it and my beautiful Codonopsis. I have snails that parachute into my garden - they eat lupins from the top down, and my poor Clem. 'Mrs Cholmondely' got munched four years in a row. I actually have several hardy Diascias, but D. personata is the best and largest one.

This Amaryllis is flowering now. It hasn't flowered for several years, and I actually forgot about it after last summer. When I found it again this May, under some staging, I thought it was dead, and was going to throw it away. But luckily I noticed it was firm and had lots of roots, so I repoted it, and now it has 4 flowers (only 3 open at the moment) I am very pleased that it's still alive even though it's flowering at the wrong time of year.
