Oh Cherry, I love the colours in your first photo. And the last photo is just summer, isn't it I've got a H. carnosa now. I hope it will flower next year ...

There was a similar Hydrangea in the pub garden the other day, Cherry, and OH was quite intrigued by it! My first contributions for August. Ligularia dentata 'Desdemona'. I balanced on the stream bank to get this photo! Another plant on the stream bank while I was there - Lythrum salicaria 'Robert'. Only part of the clump. There are two clumps about 8' apart.

Your balancing act paid off Geranium. That is a good one. That is the only flower on this huge Hydrangea which is showing colour. The rest are still white but should be out next week.

Your Hoya is really cool, Cherry, I haven't come across them before so I looked it up. The flowers really do look like they're beautifully crafted out of wax. I quite like how this photo came out. I was given the gnome planter for my birthday by a neighbour who was really worried I might be all anti-gnome. He's kind of cute...

Who, the neighbour or the gnome, @hippyemma? Pretty Fuchsia!

It is a very pretty fuchsia. Geranium I think you meant to address Bess. She will work it out. There is something wrong with my message link, which makes me unable to initiate a message, but I can tag on to one which has been sent to me. Therefore, Bess I can post a cutting I have done from my Hoya carnosa if you would like to send me your address in the message system.

Bess, does your neighbour work for the Gnome Office or the National Elf Service by any chance?

I must have a bad sense of humour, Dai, as that made me chuckle. My neighbour is currently being tortured by the National Elf Service, so maybe that's why she was worried. Thank you very much for offering me the Hoya cutting, Cherry, I really appreciate it, but I don't think I've got room for one right now They need quite a lot of sunlight don't they? I have very little window-sill space and it's shoved full of my husband's pet orchids. We're hoping to move house within 6months or so, though...

I don't think it needs much sun. In fact, I would say the opposite as I saw it growing in a forest in the wild in North Queensland. Whatever you think best Bess.

I didn't used to like orchids that much, Dai, but I have to say they are amazing if you want an easy, colourful, long lasting plant. And visitors always think you're some gardening genius if you have them flowering around the house, as they have a reputation for being tough to grow for some reason! I got the idea Hoyas need a fair bit of sun from reading various online info pages, Cherry. Apparently they can make do with some shade, but the more sun they have, the more likely they are to flower? I am really hoping to move to a place with conservatory on it, if I'm lucky, then I can try out all these houseplants I can't squeeze in our flat. Anyway, to get back to the flowers pics. Physostegia, nicotiana and other purple spikey thingy.

Bess, if you are ever in the area Of Newton Abbott, you should pay a visit to the Orchid nursery there, it is superb. It is run by a Dutch brother and sister who are the Britains foremost experts on Orchids.
