Garden Friends progressing nicely. Tel my youngest, Che, says "Oooh yes they are progressing nicely, looking forward to seeing them a bit bigger in a few weeks" - one smiley boy who loves to see what he will be doing in the future photo sharing

Hi @raymond Did not work for me either used a capital R it reverted back to a small r Yet Cat worked fine doing Cat Cat and Tel you have to link via his original name @ dahlianewbiese6 Raymond - remove the space between @ dahlianewbiese6 and the link works and shows up as Raymond

Thanks @raymond I thought my thinking was right but I feel a lot better to have it confirmed. I will definitely go on you tube tomorrow. Off now to decide if I am going to use weed control or not lol. Probably will but don't want to scare OH with it looking "commercial" gently gently and all that! Especially as not growing for competition... Yet lol (doesn't seem to want to tag @raymond sorry )

I have been reading about needing to support dahlias (can't remember this bit from childhood!) If canes what size do folks recommend? If netting do you need strong or simply large squares? Also do you make the net taught? I will probably cane this year but not sure what length. Say plant grows to approx 1metre will I need 1.2 metre cane or less/more? Thanks all

I am enjoying this cold weather. First decent winter in a while I am crossing my fingers it will help with mother nature. I know we had a lovely summer last year but wildlife really does need the cold bit too. Does anyone else feel this or am I the odd one out? lol

I have decided eventually I would like a dahlia with names that link to all the members of my family. Have found one with our street name included and one with my brothers name for future purchases but struggling with other family members but this is what I love about gardening, doing research during the winter ready for the warmer weather. So if this years growings do well this is my plan for 2016. Happy Days

Sounds good. I was reading about cuttings last night. I would love some pictures to see how they are done is there a book or video or something I can look at. For future reference mind! There are videos on youtube Cat Also look on the Jack Gott dahlias site at the top of the home page there is a section on taking cuttings. Tel The Jack Gott site is very useful - with colour pictures!! thanks for recommendation
