Go for miniatures and smalls in that space. 12 plants, a double row of 6. I'd have Mary's Jomanda and Ryecroft Jan at the back, Barbarry Pip and Oakwood Goldcrest at the front. Thanks scrumpy will take a look at those!

Good evening! I have spent the day on and off looking at pictures of Dahlia's? I am looking at buying pot grown plants this year due to greenhouse set up not being set up yet. How can I calculate how many plants I need? And do you stagger the planting? I am not growing for show at present as newby. Bed will be appr. 10\12 foot by 3 foot and I would like it all dahlias with short at front graduating to tallest at rear (shed side at back). I make it 6 tall on back row, then get stuck on how many rows. Any advice please?

Thanks Tel, Thanks everyone. I have been on halls site. Am I right I would be best with their"pot grown " or tubers? I haven't got my greenhouse yet will be 6-8 weeks or so. Pot grown from halls are available may, tubers dec to Feb (therefore logic is to buy pot grown). Gosh, watching my parents all those years ago didn't seem such hard work!!! Lol

I will now!! ?? Is it better to buy tubers or can I purchase rooted cuttings from national dahlia collection for example for this year and then they grow into tubers for next season?

Hi, My name is Cat and I am in Cornwall, UK. I have 2 garden areas with south East/North West aspect, both on a gentle slope. New to me in 2011 previously empty and overgrown I have a mixture of shade and full sun beds, currently growing perennials, vegetables and a few semi dwarf fruit trees. This year 2015 I am focusing on creating my first Dahlia bed and installing a greenhouse and new larger shed. All help is gratefully received
