As you are top northen growers I only have the Kent pictures to go bye which ian and scrumpy thought where rubbish. Could you possibly post some pics of good centres . Hard to visualise . Tel speak it plain. I have to learn. Just finished assembling my new sprayer. Took an age. Using tonight. The wildlife will be gone. All the plants where dipped and have been sprayed once as well. Still issues. So the decis is on order as is dynamec and majestik. If possible could you post good examples of Min ball Min Dec small Dec small cactus small semi cactus med semi cactus Only ever been to one show. Thanks for the honesty. Dodgey was the word I used. You'll spot a good centre when you see it.

Never grown Marston George before so I'm playing it by ear. Think I have 8 laterals per plant, didn't disbranch as that was all that came. So I will grow 2 blooms off a few of the laterals, up to 10 in total. Yes it will form 2 shoots. That's what you want. When the bud is the size of a pea, it'll take about 23 days to develop. if no show in 23 days, remove it and try a lower shoot for a later show.

At each leaf joint you get a side shoot that forms a bud. Depending on when you have a show, you either leave that side shoot on to let it flower, or remove it. Those shoots you see at the top of the plant have a tiny bud on them that will flower in about 25 days. So they will be removed and shoots in the next set of leaves down will be allowed to grow and so on. I shall be letting them develop from about the 20th July.

Beat me to it Tel. These are a little bit further on Mediums and giants smalls and miniatures plenty of buds to knock back on Marston George looking as good as I've ever had them. Hope they stay that way. Black fly and ants are the big problems. Never seen so many.

My daughter has requested sweet peas and dahlias for hers July next year. Should be OK for the peas, practising on the dahlias.

After a tortuous near 4 hour journey in blazing heat I ended up with enough blooms to do 4 vases. Got 2 firsts, 1 2nd and one 3rd. Cream ones and the Sir Jimmy lookalike both won. Mixed vase of 7 came 2nd, and a mixed vase of 9 came 3rd. My neighbour, doing his first national in only his 2nd year growing them, got 2 firsts and a 2nd. His were particularly good, and his results were more remarkable because he only grows 42 plants. Just shows what can be done with so few * * Though I did provide him with the plants

Raymond, Hope my Clearview Edie are better than the ones in the picture, far too much petal and not very well staged but as you said if he only had DS to beat then Ok The mary's and Polventon's look a bit dodgey too

Well what a season so far. Worst ever for me. Bud drop after bud drop, thought they were recovering but a few starting to show more signs. Anyway, it's the nationals on Friday. I've entered 8 classes, so we'll have to wait and see what this week brings. It's all seedlings again. The "proper" varieties I'm growing over the allotment , Just Julia and Millenium, have really suffered. Strong plants, but not one decent bloom. They've been layered once and need doing again. I may get some blooms off them in time for Wem, 3rd week in July. Anyway, as I said, it's all seedlings and those that have flowered, some have been really good. The cream and pink/cream have been 100% true to colour. The Sir Jimmy lookalike 90%. The rest I can't really say as I'm still waiting for them all to flower. Here's a picture of some I took to the local shop for selling. These are the 6 colours arranged beautifully

Andrea and Zoe minimum of 10 up, lightly disbudded. Depends on soil though as some grow them 14 up. Brenda I grow 8 up. Diane I grow 5 -6 up.

Easy to grow, difficult to look after if you grow for exhibition.

One is white, One is Red. One is a small dec. One is a small ball. Apart from that, no difference whatsoever
