Got there about 8 pm last year and was there until 4 the next morning was pointless going home really had about 3 hours sleep and got picked up at 8.15 to go back.Got back home about 4pm and started to cut for my own society show .Was there until dark and then back up at first light to carry on cutting . Staged 10 until 2 and then was a steward ,so It was a very hectic weekend.I have taken a full week off this year to help recover.

Just got back from Ayletts I thought I would get a couple of Kenora Sunset and was hoping to get a jomanda as well to replace the ones that havent made it. I was disappointed last year when I went in two weeks time they had compeltely sold out so thought I would be ok today.Hardly any plants certainly not what I wanted so I asked the man and he said a lot wont be ready for anither 2-3 weeks too late for me. Also the plants they did have were really tiny I was suprised to see how late they seem to be.
So we thought we would go to the local plant and garden exhibition especially as we should have got in for half price with our discount, got there they wouldnt honour our discount, never mind it wasnt too expensive wnet in the heavens opened not much there to see and didnt buy a thing, knew I should have stayed in the greenhouse lol

Thats a shame ....Any young plants bought now would only be useful for pot tubers for next year.....I have 3 x K Sunset for pot tubers ...so remind me next year for cuttings ...I lost my Jomanda last year and Derek kindly sent me one...so...hopefully plenty of cuttings for next year......

how do you store your tubers? Mine were left in the greenhouse all winter, with the heater set to 45'f up until december, then 50'f december onwards. I store them in plastic boxes, the tubers covered with dry peat up to the necks. Got half a dozen of those so i can store about 60 tubers under the greenhouse benches, 3 of each variety i grow. Luckily i didn't lose any, though the electric bill might have been a bit high hadn't i taken the fuse out of the tumbler now and again

I stored them the same as i always have under the benches in the greenhouse in polystyrene trays and covered with 2 layers of fleece And parrafin heater on.They looked and felt sound when I boxed them up but after 4 weeks nothing was happening so I lifted 1 out and squashed it in my hand they were all the same (120 tubers)It was as If they had rotted from the inside out.I didnt keep any pot tubers because I have never had any problems before and usually just give any spare plants away.

I stored my ground tubers in the cold greenhouse on the allotment, covered in 4 layers of fleece, in exactly the same way i have done over previous years. i have always lost the odd one or two, but this year i lost them all except for one. I have always kept pot tubers for propagating from, they are kept in a heated greenhouse, at about 40f they are stored very neatly on the bench, has you can see in the pic. ;D

dcdahlia, if you find you need to buy covers then Ive bought mine over the years from D.T. Horn. Great covers and service is excellent with phone call to say when disapatched Also Id be interested in a tuber of Dikara Superb and Blyton Softer Gleamlater in the year (I can let you know what I have spare also). Just looking through your list, Joan Walker although Ive never grown, my mate Ted has, and I seem to recall him saying the stems werent the best, so if thats the case then maybe suggest a handful of Sulphate of Potash come early July time. Another Ive never grown is Ryecroft Brenda T, I was thinking of doing so, but Ive been advised by another Cornish grower that it doesnt dress back fully before the bloom is shot! Regards, Paul Hi Paul, i bought some covers from D.T.Horn quite a few years ago They were very good, i could do with some more, do you have his contact details, i cannot find the one i had for him.
