No problem tel. The 250 dahlias still to go in have had a feed of miracle gro and a good spray with bug clear and are ready to go in this weekend. They will get another feed with mracle gro in about 3/4, weeks then a couple of feeds with phostrogen, then a feed with soluble potash about the 3rd week of august. They will also get a spray with fungus clear ultra when they are all planted out and then every 4 weeks after because of a problem I have with dahlia smut.I will also give them a couple of sprays with provado during the season.

my biggest problem is spider mite....always get it early season so it's a question of attempting to remove all lower leaves, then a spray with dynamec. Going to purchase some Majestik to hit them both ways and spray alternate weeks . Then, early August when the farmers play with their hay, i get a plague of thrips that fly off the fields straight to my garden. So i zap them with decis. Just nothing else works.

I've got the majority of my plants in the ground....which had been prepared with...well rotted manure.....and then a few handfuls of choook pellets.....when planted, watered in with a seaweed feed......sprayed with a combined bug/fungus spray....and a few mothballs ....that should keep a lot of the "little blighters" away

dcdahlia, if you find you need to buy covers then Ive bought mine over the years from D.T. Horn. Great covers and service is excellent with phone call to say when disapatched Also Id be interested in a tuber of Dikara Superb and Blyton Softer Gleamlater in the year (I can let you know what I have spare also). Just looking through your list, Joan Walker although Ive never grown, my mate Ted has, and I seem to recall him saying the stems werent the best, so if thats the case then maybe suggest a handful of Sulphate of Potash come early July time. Another Ive never grown is Ryecroft Brenda T, I was thinking of doing so, but Ive been advised by another Cornish grower that it doesnt dress back fully before the bloom is shot! Regards, Paul Hi Paul, i bought some covers from D.T.Horn quite a few years ago They were very good, i could do with some more, do you have his contact details, i cannot find the one i had for him. Hi dc, try: D. T. Horn PO Box 95, Fleet, Hants GU51 3FJ Telephone (01252) 620229 E-Mail: dshorn@btinternet.com Also see your now subscribed to D.Gillams videos on YouTube, very interesting stuff too. Regards storing tubers: End November/Beginning December, I cut the dahlias down leaving about 9 inches of stem, dig them up and leave on soil for 24 hours. I clear the greenhouse of all but the shelving and potting bench, and sterilise greenhouse and all within using Jeyes fluid at standard rate, and leave greenhouse for a week with door open. Week after sterilising and greenhouse has dried I then lay a weed suppressing membrane (Plantex) on one side of the greenhouse floor and lay a 4 inch layer of compost on this membrane. I bring 50 - 55 tubers into the greenhouse (I typically sell the other 45 or so) and lay them soil intact on this compost layer. I then fill in around with more compost leaving the 'stems' clear. I light one paraffin heater. They stay like this for about 10 weeks until Mid February. Regards, Paul
