Now the weather is warming up it is time to get back to work. There are a lot of jobs to finish, I picked out some fun jobs to start with but the OH said I should start at the bottom and systematically work my way up the garden, unfortunately I have to agree with him Job No.1 is to finish building this wall, it needs to come up another couple of feet.I've got the sand, stone and cement and no more excuses. There's a couple of feet at the end of Steve's legs. I'm sure if you ask nicely ;D Your home and garden story is an inspiration Sue, well done you.

With normal cement (this excludes B&Q or Homebase) I use 5:1 for wall building and 7:1 for concrete.
Check the back of the cement bag, there is normally the quantities needed for a particular job.
B&Q and Homebase cement is a lot weaker than building quality cement and requires much higher quantities. It is still rubbish in comparison and a lot more expensive than a builders merchants.

That would be ideal Rosie. I hope Graham enjoys his cement mixer, there is so much you can do once you have one. I couldn't be without mine now although I'm still not keen on foundations, it's a lot of mixing and then it gets covered up

Looks like you could do with some rain WF. Sorry to be 'picky' but are those Sweetcorn a bit close?Oh dear, I normally take my veg book and my measuring board with me when I plant but I thought guestimation would be close enough this time. They look so different when they are small. I've just been down and measured them, the book says 18" and I have them 17". Do you think an inch will make a huge difference? Not at all WF....you know how our Merlin likes to be "picky" ....sice when do "we forumites...go by the book" ;D

I've know times when an inch......well in this case you're right it won't make any difference ;D From experience I've found it best to plant 2' apart and grow something in between ;D. I've got onions this year. Having said that my Sweetcorn is desperate for warm weather, recent nights have been close on freezing !

I've always planted them 18", at this distance I can fit four across the bed.
We got down to 4 degrees last night, it is water we desperately need, half my potatoes have died.
