Went to the allotment this morning . I top dressed the potatoes growing in bags and buckets with more compost. I then finished the cane structure to support nets over the brassica bed. After my hospital visit I went to the tea party on the allotments at 3.00. It became very windy and it was blowing chairs over where nobody was sat. I was home again at 5.00 and I went back to the allotment this evening. I thought it was too windy to put the nets over the brassica bed. it would be too difficult to get them in position. So I decided to start weeding the root crop bed which was rather bad.

It was showery today so I didn't risk going to the allotment. I dismantled one of the frames that I no longer needed and put it away. I also mixed a 70 litre bag of potting compost with some swellgel to use for baskets. I also sowed 16 French beans in pots .They will do to fill gaps if any that I sowed on the allotment don't germinate and I may plant some at school.

Went on the allotment this morning and this evening. I put the nets over the brassica bed first. The pigeons have had a go at some of the cabbages though. I then finished weeding the root crop bed and started the dahlia bed. I hadn't much time this afternoon but I planted three of my tubs, two with impatiens and one with geraniums.

I have told you before that I go to the house of a man we know called Ken and plant his tubs for him. He has two square containers at the front of his house and five round ones at the back plus three chimney pots and three hanging baskets. When I got home from hospital this afternoon I took a 70 litre bag of potting compost and replaced most of the compost with fresh but I hadn't quite enough so I will have to take some more. I brought his baskets home. All the compost from his tubs I took to the allotment this evening and put it on the root crop bed and raked it in. I this did some more weeding on the dahlia bed and nearly finished it.

Today, I have mowed the lawns and planted some tubs and baskets for Edna, the other walk leader at Blackleach. Went to the allotment this evening. I have told you before that I take three of my frames to the allotment to grow carrots in and I took the last one this evening. I grow a row of marrows at the back of the potato bed but before I can plant them the area needed weeding so I began doing that.

After my hospital visit this afternoon and again this evening I have been in the garden. I weeded the dahlia bed but there weren't many weeds then put in the canes so it is ready for planting. I have also tied up all the chrysanths.

Yesterday on the allotment I planted sweet corn and squashes on the "others" bed and some lettuce (three varieties ) between the rows of runner beans and sweet peas. Put growmore on the dahlia bed , raked it in and put all the canes in ready for planting. I also finished weeding the area where the marrows are going. Today I put all the dahlia which were in 5 inch pots under the car port and sorted them into varieties and decided which I am growing both at home and on the allotment. At home I grow 27 on the main bed,( large and medium flowered varieties) and 12 in a row at the back of the border round the back lawn (other types) .On the allotment I grow 35 (other types including small decs and cactus , min balls, waterlilies and collarettes). This evening I took these 35 to the allotment and planted them and tied them up. I also took about 12 plants in 5 inch pots that I don't need and left them for anyone who wants them. I still have a lot in smaller pots and these will go on my plant stall on the 25th.

Apart from my usual hospital visit I have been doing hanging baskets the rest of the day and evening and still haven't finished them. There are 26 under my car port at present. 12 are my own and the rest for friends and neighbours. I have also planted 4 pouches and in the ball where I usually plant begonias I have put pink diascias.

I told you about a man called Ken who I plant tubs and baskets for. I had put fresh compost in his tubs on June 8th and this morning , and again this afternoon, after my hospital visit I went to his house and planted them. This evening I finished planting all the hanging baskets , three of which are for Ken , so I will take them to him tomorrow.
