Went on the allotment this morning. The peas have finished so I removed the plants and put them on the compost. Had to take all the twistits and rings from the canes which took me a while. I then dismantled the structure of canes. Couldn't go this afternoon because it was raining but it was fine this evening so I went back. A disaster had happened. A structure of canes on which runner beans and climbing French beans were growing had completely collapsed and was lying over my brassica bed which has a net over it. I didn't know what to do at first. It was too heavy to lift up and if I could have lifted it I don't know how I would have propped it up. I couldn't lift the net off the brassica bed to get at the brassicas so I finally decided to dismantle the whole structure.I put all the plants on the compost and removed the canes, as I had done with the peas this morning. There were plenty of beans on and I will harvest what I can even though they are on the compost. I do have another frame with runner beans on but these are a different variety.

All the bean plants from yesterday were all piled up in one of my compost bays. There were plenty of beans on and I decided to transfer the plants a bit at a time to the next bay cutting up the long growths with secateurs and harvesting the beans as I went along. There were two kinds, runner beans (mergolese) and climbing French beans(Rob Roy). This evening I have sat under the car port sorting them out. I need to keep some of each to collect the seeds so I picked out the pods containing large seeds the sorted the rest out which were still usable and disposed of the rest which will go on the compost.

Yesterday I washed all the beans that I brought home on Tuesday because they had been on the ground. I took them all, along with some tomatoes, potatoes and a marrow to a food bank. Went on the allotment after. The leeks have all died and I don't know why. I think onion fly may be the culprit so next year I will grow them on a different bed. I removed the collars from them and got rid of the dead plants. I also dead headed the roses and dead headed, disbudded and side shooted the dahlias. Today I have mowed the lawns and fed the tomatoes, peppers, hanging baskets and tubs with maxicrop These are what I took to the food bank yesterday
