Well done on all the prizes. Those Andrea look better than the impact, which look a bit young and short on depth.

AND FINALLY The best exhibit in all the flower classes--A vase of mixed annuals. If it not raining I stage my flowers on a table outside . When I had finished this vase the wind blew it over onto the floor and some flowers at the top were broken I hadn't time to put any more in but it was still good enough to get "best in show"

We had one and a quarter inches of rain yesterday. Today has been dry but VERY windy. Went on the allotment this morning and afternoon . Had to spend a lot of time re-staking and tying things up which had blown over. Some of the dahlias, cosmos and sunflowers were on the ground. The runner bean /sweet pea frame of canes was leaning over and I had to try to prop it up. I went along the hedge of roses, dead heading and cutting back branches that had flowered I also harvested the potatoes from the buckets and tubs and finished forking over the potato bed to get any that I missed before. I washed all these potatoes this evening. Tomorrow, and Wednesday morning I will be cutting my flowers for Southport.

Hi Derek, nice to see Edenfield show is still around mostly thanks to your entries. You probably keep one or two other societies going as well, It is a credit to you your longevity. My you have been around showing for one or two years now Hehe. I remember you showing some 44/45 years ago I had a very large collection of Cacti and Succulents which I used to show at Radcliffe, Worsley, Walkden, Bolton and Southport I was a boy. I now show Dahlias and quite successful. Good luck at Southport Derek I am sure I will see you flirting about busy away.

Yes , Ian . I started showing in 1965 with one entry of roses in the novices at Worsley , 2 entries the following year (in the open classes)and 3 the year after and I have gone on from there entering a few more shows each year , the most being 18 in 1991. The most entries I have made in a season was 488 in 1997. .Many of the shows I entered in the past are no longer including Farnworth, Bolton, Radcliffe and Winton. It was Edenfields 100th show last Saturday and they are carrying on. There were only three main exhibitors providing the bulk of the entries. The other two were Chris Nightingale and Ken Ridaulgh . Do you know them?. By the way I'm not sure who you are but I think I know. You have judged our show in the past haven't you and I have heard you lecturing. If you don't want to put your real name on here please send me a personal message to tell me if I am right.

It has been a day of very heavy showers and I have been on the allotment this afternoon and evening trying to cut my flowers for Southport between showers. it is still very windy too and the rain and wind have spoiled some of the flowers but I suppose they will have spoiled other peoples too. I will cut some from my garden in the morning then off to Southport in the afternoon.

I have been staging my flowers at Southport today. I cut some from my garden this morning then set off for Southport at 12.30.and arrived home at 9.30. I have entered 13 classes . Only one vase of dahlias (Tatatahi Ruby), the rest being annuals and perennials .Don't think I will win very much though as the standard is very high. The flower championship class which I enter every year and which asks for 9 vases of 6 flowers has 5 entries. So we will be going tomorrow to see what I have won if anything. It has been dry today but still rather windy.

We had a good day at Southport today and it didn't rain. Did better than I expected. Got three first, three seconds and two thirds. First with a large vase of cottage garden flowers. Most pleased about this because there were 7 good entries in this class. First with stocks out of 5 entries and first with 3 vases of annuals but there was only me in this class. The seconds were in African marigolds, antirrhinums and a vase of annuals not mentioned in which I put cleome. Was third in the flower championship class and with calendulas. Didn't win anything with the dahlias. Saw Scrumpy and had a chat with him .Will try and show you some pictures now
