As I said yesterday I have cut the flowers for Whitefield show and been staging this evening. I have staged the dahlias and spray chrysanths . I have entered all the dahlia classes except medium cactus and small decs. There is a championship class for three vases and I have done that. I will do all the rest of the staging in the morning.

I have had another successful show today at Whitefield .Alltogether I got 17 firsts,16 seconds and 12 thirds. Two trophies(most points in flowers and most points in roses). There was a good entry in the dahlia classes and what pleased me most was that I won the bronze medal with Ruskin Andrea. Scrumpy will be pleased because he gave me that variety last year. He will also be pleased that I won the medium dec class with a mixed vase of White Charlie two and Rycroft Magnum because he gave me those varieties this year. Couldn't find a matching three of either variety so a mixed vase it had to be. I won with Don Hill again and a vase for effect. I won with small onions again as I did at our show but this was my only first with veg. Came second with my basket and second in the top tray.I will try and show you a few pictures

This is the dahlia championship class for three vases. Three entries and I came third with Taratahi Ruby, Oakwood Goldcrest and L'Ancresse. The winner of this class naturally got the silver medal but my Ruskin Andrea must have been the best of all the other vases.

My mixed vase in medium decs which came first. The B.J.beauty at the back looked good to me and I thought they would win but the judge must have found something wrong with them. The other vase of Magnum on the left were too young.

Nice one Derek. I may have supplied the odd tuber but you've still got to grow them well. Those mediums will be even better next year now you've had a season with them.

Thanks for those comments. All I have done today is mow the lawns and wash the Charlotte potatoes this afternoon and this evening some more disbudding, de-shooting and tying up of the dahlias. I have another show next Saturday, at Tottington. If you remember I couldn't go there last year because I had to go to Harrogate to be presented with my F.N.V.S.certificate. When I went there two years ago Ian Sutherland was showing. If he still shows there I don't stand any chance, do I ?. I will still be trying though.

Only had an hour or so gardening time this evening . A lady called Val who shows at our show and comes to our hut fairly regularly said a few weeks ago that they were having a Heritage weekend at her church which is this next weekend. She asked if some of us(and me in particular) could provide some flowers and plants to make a display. I told her that I had a show this weekend so I didn't know if I could help her or not. Anyway I have thought about it since and realised that I have plenty of flowers for the show and I could spare her some. I have also got about 8 large coleus and I decided that if I keep three or four for showing she can have the others. I can't keep large coleus over winter so I will tell her they can sell them after. So I decided to take some cuttings of them this evening. I phoned her this morning and made arrangements to take what I could to her church at 12.00 on Wednesday. Tomorrow evening I will go to the allotment and cut some flowers for her.
