I've got tomatoes growing in my greenhouse and I want to grow some inside and some outside. Girls each have a tomato grow bag and their own plant. Is it too early to plant them outside? Also what size cane would I need? Girls are growing Golden Sunrise (Pirate Yellow Wellies choice) and Gardener's Delight (Fairy Pink Wellies choice).

It should be all right, but watch the forecast, in case your area is due for a frost! Canes - outdoor plants don't normally get to the same size as indoor ones, so a 5' cane should do it.

Are the outdoor ones going direct into the ground or containers/growbags?

Moonlight if your growing GS out side you need a cane about 1-5m they also spread so give them plenty of room and in a sunny position. GD grows about the same hope this helps.

Girls are growing theirs in tomato grow sacks. My own will be a mixture of in and outs but I want to get the girls cracking on theirs. At least with the grow sacks I can drag them to a place that catches sun. If we have any this year. Thanks for the advice. I have a bit more of an idea of what to get.

Should be planting my toms in their growbags soon. I'm afraid their cotyledons have fallen off.........oh dear! Not to worry though, when I set them out they go down as deep as I can and they develop adventitious roots and crop just as well. I agree with your dad though that plants with their seed leaves still attached is one of the signs of a well looked after plant. I have stopped being quite so fussy in my old age and as long as they crop well that is what matters

Remember to nip out the side shoots on the toms ML, I usually nip out the growing tip once 4 or 5 trusses have set.

Pic shows how the growbag is shaken up to one end and the flap tucked under. I put two plants in each and they have a deeper root run In position ready for planting: Two toms planted note upturned pop bottle in middle to facillitate watering/feeding Canes alongside for tying in later

I was just showing off because I had done something right (but without any help).
One of things that stresses me out with potting up is getting leaves caught in the compost but I have noticed that some of the dahlias that we have had are like that. So obviously it is just me worrying about things too much but I am getting better. 'onest guv'nor. (I just thought that the leaves would go mouldy in the compost.) PS I won't sulk if you all roll your eyes after reading that.

Not surprising that their cotyledons have already fell off. PS You always speak with the voice experience and a lot of common sense but please stop thinking about your 'old age' your wit and erm. can't think of the right phrase but your wit and vitality (and I am not thinking of yoghurt) always shine through your posts. Not sure if that makes sense but in my defence it is now gone 1.40 am. I hope that you don't think I am being rude.

We do make fun of each other a lot but that is all it is, fun. one of the attractions of this forum is the ability to have serious comments as well as silly ones. I have learnt a lot from the forum and when I can, I try to assist others when it is something I have had experience with.

I've been squashing grow bags today. I even evicted two of my Downham Royals to make space for grow bags. I think I will be able to fit 4 in but I need to move out 3 Happy Halloweens. The penny has just dropped I can grow 8 tomatoes in my greenhouse. Just need to pick which ones. I've got some French Marigolds. See I am trying to pick up on people's tips here. What size bottle do you use?

But it helps to have a sense of humour too.
