Great pictures SueA . I must put my camera out to see whats a foot . My neighbor thinks there are at least two hedghogs about as she has seen the larger one and recently a smaller one. Her dog goes mad when they are in her garden.

so pleased this morning, was standing by the back door and saw my first hedgehog, was looking for a way in, it could have got under the gate, but chose the smallest gap, so opened the gate, stood back and off it went up the garden

That's good news grindle, they must be around then near you, they're supposed to be able to get through gaps only 4 or 5 inches tall/wide but I think some of the massive ones I've seen would struggle with that! We had 2 on our camera last night so still getting regular visitors.

I've noticed dropping around the bird feeder for a while now, but this is the first one I've seen

Two hedgehogs 'sumo wrestling' again last night in our garden - they're not always cute & shy!

I don’t know why they have suddenly took to our garden but we have had 6 different adults over the last few weeks, we were advised to mark them with something like nail varnish in either different colours or different areas and weigh them, so we are certain 6 different so far, they should be over 600 grams to stand a good chance of surviving winter so this one has no problem 😁

That's a whopper steve, it must be what you're feeding them! I never pick ours up or weigh them unless they're wandering around in daylight & look very small & have taken a couple to our local hedgehog rescue place in the past. I follow a couple of wildlife rescue people on Twitter & there seem to have been lots of poorly hedgehogs taken in to them this year with lungworm or nasty injuries from strimmers & getting caught in netting etc.

The story is......😊 Joy was at the hairdressers and mentioned she had seen a hedgehog, a lady nearby piped up with all the info, must have been president of hedgehogsRus affiliated or something like that told her how to pick them up, mark them, weigh them etc said they are timid but wouldn’t be scared off or affected by being weighed and would come back the next night, she was spot on and if not for the chance meeting we would still be thinking our hedgehog looks a bit bloated today or looks like he’s lost a bit of weight (she also told us how to sex them) we would never have imagined there were 6 different ones, the only thing is the scales need to be very well cleaned after or don’t use them again for food As there seemed to be things jumping out of them 😲 Joy has made a chart of their sex and weight ( I won’t tell you their names) 😁

Go on steve tell us!? They do get a lot of fleas & the ones we have in our garden occasionally get ticks, you can see them as blobs sticking out of them usually around their faces on the night camera we have. They say the fleas etc. on them won't live on humans but I'd like to bet they'd have a good chew on me!
