Hello all members of Garden Friends. I want to make those of you aware who use Whatsapp to chat to family and friends that there are scammers around via Whatsapp. They contact you as a family member saying they've had to change their phone provider so now have a new number which you are asked to save. I fell for the scam because at no stage did I have any reason to believe I wasn't talking to my son. I've used computers etc. for 25 years and cannot believe I was totally taken in by their modus operandi. Everything in the messages sounded very believable. Whatsapp gave me information to add security to my account so I am passing this on to you to protect yourselves. It has been reported to my Bank and the Police who have logged it as Fraud by Misrepresentation and it is ongoing. Please be vigilant friends on here who are Whatsapp users. Janet x

Never started hardy annuals in Autumn before, so questions for gardeners more experienced than myself:
- Will the seeds survive in a tubular upright greenhouse, four shelves, with plastic zip front cover ? - Which month would be best to sow the seeds? - How ften should I water them?
Thanks all.

Thanks Sue, I have since seen something online at B&Q which may be just right, and also Sarah Raven has it on her website.

Yes, Libralady. Blackleach country park is in Walkden. Where does you son live?. Tell him that I live in Oakwood Drive. My first job when leaving school in 1952 was at L.Dennis's chemical works and I worked there till the firm closed in 1976. This is now the location of Blackleach country park where I spend a lot of my time. It is a special place to me, with having worked there for so long. I enjoy the wildlife there and I also do some gardening there, looking after the border alongside the visitor centre. He's about half a mile from the new Tesco Derek and often walks his two huskies around Blackleach. The hut you mention in a later post - is that at Blackleach too? Is it open to anyone to join as I could buy my gardening products there which would be handy when I go down to see my son.

SueA: Lovely flower arrangement. Colours really complement each other. I have been looking through 2021 month by month so I can write down the flowers/shrubs I like. Can you tell me where you buy the grit you used to top your bulb pots please? What quantity does it come in and where can I buy it? Quite often horticultural grit is used to mix a potting compost - is there anything else I could use other than horticultural grit? Would sharp sand work? I have joined the RHS now so I can go down to Bridgewater soon.

Is that Blackleach Country Park at Walkden you are referring to Derek? My son lives not far from there, as did my daughter and grand daughter till 3 years ago when they moved to Clayton-le-Moors.

I will have to have a mooch around and see what I can find. Just trying to post a pic of my rampant rambling rose "The Peasant." Best £6.50 I ever spent. Protects the shed roof from the squirrels which is why I planted it and gives a nesting place for the birds. Flowers most of June and is lovely. Time for a good chop after it has finished flowering - not done it for a few years because it attacked me last year!

What fabulous photos posted on here - enjoyed scrolling through them. Beautiful everyone. I am going to help my son to do a wildflower border. He's only just getting interested in gardening but he has a wide patch 15' by 3' which he has left as wild long grass and it is teeming with insects so that is a good start. Will plant some yellow rattle asap and bought some native wildflower perennial seeds ready for September and will start by cutting the long grass down first. Do garden centres sell wildflower plants?
Sue A: Love that beautiful foxglove.
