I was given some strawberry jam today with an apology because it is a little thin. It is, but it tastes lovely. Is strawberry jam always thin or was the texture alright Esther? I try to avoid making this sort of jam, but I was given some strawberries and I am getting a bit fed up with them. I made a load of Strawberry jam once but it was too thin, I had to pour it in my toast ;D nice though. Should have done as Esther did. We make wine with them now

I have a highly visible shelf that I'm growing an Alpine variety on but the pink flowers would look better.

That was nice of her Tel. She has probably had the benefit of some dahlias in the past. I have got two Fragaria, the flowering strawberry and they are very pretty. Well, of course they are all called Fragaria.

I'll bet they are lovely Steve, even with those outsize pips. ;D I must say they are early. Mine are just tiny seedlings which I might put in the paving stones on the patio. Would they be too big to plant between the paving stones? Would they be better used as an edging to the proper strawberry bed which is netted? This is how big the plant gets Cherry (leg shown for scale) ;D I have an overwhelming urge to get some waxing strips...... ;D ;D

Ants wont eat strawberries. There is a pest called Strawberry seed beetle but that only affects the shape I think.

Thanks for the information Esther. Todays picking will go in (on) a Strawberry Shortcake. This is a good old Australian favourite. In fact, I just learned yesterday that my nephew runs a strawberry farm in Toolangi, Victoria. That is strawberry country.

These are some of the strawberries I was given today. These are 'Lucy' variety and behind are white strawberries which have ordinary red pips on the outside. There are tiny fruits on these.Together with the strawberries another person gave me, tomorrow will be a jam making day.
