I have had four bowls of Finesse strawberries. When I googled this variety it said mid July for the first to be ready.
I now have Finesse everbearer and Darlisette and I think I have the best of the two types.
What varieties of strawberry are other gardeners growing?

Everyone is different and we all have different tastes, so you will probably get a mixed bag in the way of recommendations Tel.
The Finesse came as complete large plants with huge roots. I have never seen strawberry plants like these and they appear to be expensive. These were locally grown and I know the manager. They were not available to buy last year. Too new.
The Darlisette are very sweet and very good, but the plants are really scabby looking as they are getting past it. I bought them about three weeks ago from T&M on one of the online offers. I know these are good because I have tasted them. I suggest that you buy these now if you are going to so that they are good for next year. The farm that supplies me don't grow these ones so I had to pay for them.
The manager is coming to see me next week, so I will get the news on Strawberries.

Just had a look at Darlisette on the T&M site. You cannot buy them now until Oct, but at £11.99 for 12 runners and the sweeter the better for me, looks like i will order 12 of those to begin with.

I've still got my seed for those Steve...will they be ok for next hear do you think? I am growing Albion Everbear that I got from T&M last year. The very small crop I had were very tasty and am hoping for an even better crop this year......the fruits are quite a decent size now.....they just need to ripen

I'll bet they are lovely Steve, even with those outsize pips. ;D I must say they are early. Mine are just tiny seedlings which I might put in the paving stones on the patio. Would they be too big to plant between the paving stones? Would they be better used as an edging to the proper strawberry bed which is netted?

They do make a bigish plant I would say taller than a normal strawberry...I wonder ...they should come true from the pips shouldn't they?
Sow em and see Lou, I think they will germinate

Thanks Steve. It sounds like they are bigger than the sort I had growing at my last abode. They were just known as wild strawberries and they were hardly worth eating really because they were so tiny.

That is a great selection Merlin. I will be interested to know what Frau Schindler tastes like. I had never heard of this variety until the newsletter. Have the plants settled in yet?

Frau Miese Schindler, as you'll remember half of the first delivery failed. They sent another ten and only half of them survived! Well they refunded but I now have just seven that are out of 'intensive care' They're not as sturdy as others but healthy enough but I doubt they'll fruit this year.
