Could be done actually. I wish you all lived nearer when it comes to plums, apples and pears.

These are some of the strawberries I was given today. These are 'Lucy' variety and behind are white strawberries which have ordinary red pips on the outside. There are tiny fruits on these.Together with the strawberries another person gave me, tomorrow will be a jam making day. They look good Cherry

Considering that it's their last year my 'Irresistible' Strawbs are lovely though not as abundant as last year. Sadly the new 'Finesse' and 'Florence' are very big but nowhere near as tasty, looks like more wine! I'm beginning to think I should have propagated my 'Irresistible' as the 'Frau Maise Shindler' I bought are not what you could call sturdy, they're growing runners but so so slowly. I only have 7 as they got off to a bad start but the idea was to grow for taste rather than size. The 4 'Cambridge Favourites' that came free with the 'F M Shindlers' are rampant!

It is good to find out what other people enjoy Merlin. I just love the Finesse and their growing habit. They look beautiful, they sit upright, have few runners, and are everbearing. I won't enjoy the bulk of the Darlisette until next year, but these were endorsed by Toby Buckland. They are his favourite. I am very interested to hear what Frau Hitler is like. I thought the Lucy needed a little more acidity to give them a less bland taste.

Well I believe that no two people's taste is the same but I would have thought that Strawberries were an exception. I bought 'Finesse' in the belief that they had exceptional flavour but am disappointed. I wonder if it's my fault as I've allowed them to fruit in their first year. The fruits are enormous but a bit woody and not sweet.
