Can't beat the real thing but I think it was the BBC who once did a test on School children. They were given a drink made with real Strawberries and a popular processed/flavoured brand.....they chose the latter !

I've been on line looking for an answer as to why my 'Florence' and 'Finesse' are so bad but as yet no joy. There's no accounting for taste they say but we really don't like them. They are very big but woody and poor in taste. So, I've decided to dig them all up and take runners from my 'Irresistible' to complement my Frau Meise. No strawberries next year

Merlin, how long have you had Finesse and did they come as huge potted plants in fairly large pots? In fact, I don't think they were available last year. When you google, read Marshalls. They say they saw them on trial last year and have offered them this year and I know T&M didn't have them. I got them before the name was even finalized. Where did you get yours?

Cherry I can't remember where I got them from but it was early last year as I took lots of runners. So, they must have been fairly big. It's only a few months and I should remember, I guess I'm getting old I emailed 'Garden Organic/advice' but no reply yet. I'll try 'Marshalls.

One of the selling points is that they make very few runners. I just wonder if it is another variety you have. I have checked my catalogue which includes this year's trials. Finesse is crossed from Everest and is very new. It is nearly four times the price of Florence.

Funny you should mention runners Cherry, I went to take some from my Irresistible and there were none, at all! Plenty on the Florence and Finesse. It all gets curiouser and curiouser. I really would like to know if it's cos they are in their first year. I do wish I could remember where and how much I paid for them.. Being a bit of a Magpie I tend to hoard labels ect. so I'll look in my Misc. box. So, I've started runners from the 4 free Cambridge favourites. I certainly don't want any Finesse or Florence

Have you mixed up Finesse and Irresistible? Finesse each came with its own printed label.

Definitely not but I have mixed Finesse with Florence. I've tried some from all over the bed and not one is to my palate. In other words I can't tell a finesse from a Florence. All the plants in this bed are extremely vigorous and erect with large fruit. I wonder if it's something to do with the fact that I put a great deal of home compost under it.
