Well today has been a mixed day, foundout are vegetable guru on he plot next to us has lost his fight with cancer and gone up to the big polytunnel in the sky. Its been so sudden from diagnosis to now was less than 4 months, he was such a big strong man as well he will be sorely missed. He was the man that could do anything, grow anything and had the biggest polytunnel on the plot and would give anyone advice and loved a chat. RIP Steve Managed to get 11 rows of broad beans sown and 4 small rows of potatoes. At least we have room on the window cills for the tomato seeds that I planted on Monday

Oo lovely Candy, i'm sure you will love your greenhouse. I can't wait for my polytunnel to be finished too.
Thats so sad about your plot neighbour too, it's a horrible disease but he'll have a great garden where ever he is. People like him are worth their weight in gold, he sounded a kind soul.

Well the only update is, its taken us a week (weather was too windy etc) and now we have the frame ready to be clad and then its just the securing down and the plastic panels to do lol We will be making sure ours is as solid as possible as a while ago a newish greenhouse flew away and got smashed up.
We really need to get a move on as dahlia plants will be coming soon, cant wait!

Plenty time for dahlias yet CB. You seem to be making good progress and a g'house will be so very useful. It will help you clear the window sills Hope you get some good mileage from your Mondeo. ;D

Thanks Sweetpea well the new Mondeo crowns are already shooting, they were obviuosly very ready to be planted! I have been harvesting asparagus from the old bed this week and its yummy! been really enjoying it along with the rhubarb.
The greenhouse still isnt finished lol but I am confident as long as the weather is ok this weekend it will be done by the end of it.
I must get my other potatoes in this weekend as I have already had to start earthing up the ones in the ground already.
We have sown 3 types of beetroot in 5 rows - Alto a cylindrical one,Red Ace and an italian one with an extremely long and complicated name. I also have 4 rows (only short rows) of leeks transplanted from the nursery bed on the other plot. Talking of the other plot we have sowed a whole bed of carrotts which we have covered with envirofleece, there should be loads which is good as the budgies eat them too. Also have sowed lettuce, mixed lettuce leaves and spring onions on the other plot too.
Am hoping to get some piccies this weekend as took camera down there to find out the batteries have died.

Well I havent updated lately as have been so busy, I have had all of this week off work and so as OH but i have next week off too but he doesnt lol! Been down the lottie every day nearly all day and have done so much that I have been to pooped to update.
The dahlias and chrysanths came today from Halls and had to pot them all up which we have just got home from doing, they were really nice plants and they even gave us 3 free of a variety called embrace so that was a nice suprise. Lucky we got the greenhouse finished and I feel like I havent come out of there this week
Have potted on 60 different sweet peppers, chillis and aubergines, I have also potted on my cosmos and cornflowers only done them in pots as didnt know where I wanted to put them.
I have also sown my courgettes, squashes and some more sweet eas, the sweet peas and dahlia mixed zinnias are doing well and I have also sown some lime green zinnias.
On the other plot I have planted out 36 caulis, cabbages and romanesco using our new hoops we bought at the edible garden show, they look very smart am very pleased with them!
Also all the potatoes are in the 50 polybags but I need to get some more compost to top them up, I have also transplanted my leeks into the plot and most of the seeds are coming up that we have sown I will get some piccies of both plots tomorrow, oh yes and my aliums are nearly all out!
Phew after all of this I am going to have a long soak

Ok as OH is away on a spa day at work and I wasnt allowed to go which seems silly as he wont get the real benefit I have decided I am having a day off apart from watering later. I am going to post some piccies to show what the plot looks like as of yesterday, sorry its going to be image heavy THis picture is taken from the front of the plot so you can see the plot as a whole, its a bit difficult to see very well across the plot now with the greenhouse in the way The front bed is potatoes there is rocket, red duke of york, golden wonder and some self sets lol The next bed has some irises in at the end, then leeks, beetroot, swede, turnips, celeriac, fennel and then parsnips Then after these beds is the old asparagus bed that we are cropping then removing to make another bed that will go up to the greenhouse. The only bit we have left to dig is in a horseshoe shape around the greenhouse and on the far side this will be another dahlia bed To the left of the greenhouse you can see the other potatoes kestrel, edzell blue and mimi that I am doing in bags as a trial. At the end of the greenhouse is the blue barrels with carrotts in them Inside the greenhouse as you can see there are already lots of plants including my dahlias from Halls I need to get some more staging tomorrow. Then we have the four dahlia beds dug and covered in weed membrane ready to be planted Then we have the rhubarb and the new asparagus bed, followed by the bed with glads in one side and I still have more to plant the other side Then its the fruit trees and bushes Then my aliums that are now out amongst the raspberries and blackberry
